One of my best friends is Hindu and I’ve started to notice that the more I interact with her and her family, the harder it is for me to accept many of the teachings of the church. I don’t know if I should try to cut back on my interactions with her or if I should just try to accept the fact that she has different beliefs than I do.

Your Faith and your immortal soul are in deadly danger. It is good to question sometimes, because our Faith is entirely reasonable, but if you are looking for answers to your difficulties outside the Church you may be in trouble.

First, which teachings of the Church are you having a problem with?

Go back to the Teachings of the Church and find out the reasoning behind those teachings.

Start a separate thread for each one and we can help you.

I have some Hindu friends and I believe they would make awesome Catholics if I could convince them of the truth of Christian belief.

I advise that you meet your friend away from her family while you are going through this time of questioning. And most important of all, PRAY, PRAY, PRAY to the Holy Spirit.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses I offer myself, soul and body, to You, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice and the might of Your love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve You by unfaithfulness to grace and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You. Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light and listen to Your voice and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and give myself to You and ask You by Your compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring his opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, so to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You. Give me grace, O Holy Ghost, Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to You always and everywhere, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant heareth.”
Amen

Please pray this every morning.

Spend time in front of the Blessed Sacrament as often as possible and pray this while you are there. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth to you.

You must do what is necessarily for your salvation. And, if this friendship is causing you to be pulled away from the Faith then yes you must do something.

What is it that you are finding hard to accept?

May I suggest that you bring this up in your next confession. Even though it is a temptation and not a sin, there is grace for you and the good advice of the priest. The devil loves it when we keep silent in confession about our temptations - especially major ones like this.

Pray for faith, more faith and even more faith? And maybe for a better understanding of the Church’s teaching?

few things you can do:
  • stick around this site, you will learn a lot more many other…I know I am.
  • study Bible.
  • and pray more.
  • if something is troubling you regarding the teaching of our faith, please ask.

coleta,

Could you please explain what the word “coleta” means?

I googled and this word came up along with the word “hindu” in many search results. 😉

Get a “Catechism of the Catholic Church”. If you can’t
afford one, you can get one from the library. If they don’t
have one, they can get you one for free from another library.
This way, you can look up every question you have, when
you have it.🙂

Remember, Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father but by me.” Don’t you want to
come to the Father?

That’s just an odd coincidence. Coleta was my great grandmothers name, which was in turn given to me.

If those options mentioned above aren’t available you can still find a copy online at www.vatican.va or if you specifically need to find one thing in particular use this link. It allows you to search the CCC.
