I’ve been a faithful Catholic since attending RCIA in 1993. I’ve attended Mass without fail weekly and usually one or two times during the week before work. I go to confession monthly and until recently, thought I had a strong, strong faith.
The child abuse scandal happened, and I kept my faith.
I’ve watched my local convents begin offering Reiki classes, yoga, and other New Age-type programs.
I’ve heard outrageous things come from the mouths of local priests – including a priest saying he hopes to live to see women ordained; that birth control is a personal decision; that the Eucharist is just a symbol.
But recently with the very public downfalls of two very popular priests, my faith has finally been shaken. I don’t attribute it all to that; it’s more an accumulation of everything over the past several years. With the most recent news story being the straw that broke my camel’s back.
I haven’t been to Mass in two weeks and am again faced with another weekend. It’s been on my mind all week that I need to go back but I just can’t. I’m completely without faith. Just dry. The thought of even entering a church makes me so bone weary I just can’t even face it. I haven’t been able to pray in weeks.
I just wanted to write all this out in the hope that seeing it in black and white will be the kick in the backside I need to get out of this pity pot.
