I have a 20-year-old son who doesn’t go to Mass anymore. We have made it clear we expect him to attend Mass but we know he is not going. He still lives at home. Are we meeting our obligation? If not, how far should we go or what else should we do?

If your adult son refuses to meet the conditions of living at home, then you should insist he move out. Give him a deadline for moving and offer to help him create an “exit plan,” but make clear that you will not allow him to remain in the family home if he refuses to abide by the rules for doing so. If it makes you feel better about forcing him to move out, remind yourself that it is in your son’s best interests to insist to him that full independence from parental authority requires full responsibility for supporting himself.
