My 17 year old son - (18 next month) admitted to me recently that he no longer believes in God and I caught him looking at Atheist views on the internet. In addition, I found him looking at porn and worse - gay porn. He says he is bisexual. And, he is completely in favor of Same Sex Marriage. He was confirmed in the church at age 16 and has always been a great kid and up this this point - very Christian in values. He is very bright with a bright future. Unless, in my opinion he follows in this wrong path. I have let him know how I feel about all this but he has several friends at school who are into the liberal views and definately have an influence over him. I worried that when he goes off to college next year - he will fall into this trap even deeper. I took him to talk to a Deacon at our church - not sure it helped very much. He really thinks he is right about all his beliefs. I realize this could be just a teen phase or an attempt to become more independent but I really am at a loss at what can do? I would really like to point out the bad statistics of a homosexual lifestyle, the Catholic church’s views on marriage and homosexuality but now sure how to go about it. With that being said - if I even talk about the bible, our church, etc…he tunes me out since he now says he doesn’t believe in all that. I feel like I’m in a no win situation. It’s like since he decided he was for the gay lifestyle - he better find a way to dispute the church since it’s stance is so strong. Most of his friends are christian so I don’t know why he chose this. Please help if you can. All advice would be appreciated.
