What do lay people get to do about non-Catholics taking communion?

See, I don’t get this blessing stuff. You’re in the presence of the Eucharist, and you’re formally blessed, throughout the Mass.

Hi guys as they say up north.
The blessing is truly only valid by an ordained minister. However, the real reasons this is being done is to move the lines of people so that we are not tripping over each other. Remember the olden days. It was very difficult. It even may have caused sin by others judging. Who knows. But we say “We (meaning our community, which includes the priest) bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirt”. I believe based on Church teaching that it is not really meaningful unless it is done by the Priest or Deacon. However, note the following: many Catholics do not realize the what the “domestic church” is and that men are bishops in that role. We, fathers and I would also think mothers, not only can but should bless our children daily/regularly. I do it every night. I discovered this on my journey back to the Catholic Church.

As far as why non-Catholics are NOT to receive Holy Communion, one need only refer to scripture to discover why:

1 Corinthians 11

27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord.
28 A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup.
29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.
30 That is why many among you are ill and infirm, and a considerable number are dying.
31 If we discerned ourselves, we would not be under judgment;
32 but since we are judged by (the) Lord, we are being disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
33 Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
34 If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that your meetings may not result in judgment. The other matters I shall set in order when I come.

Now for the illicit behaviors of other poorly catechized Catholics. We must not judge them. We should pray for them and take care of our own lacking faith formation. Only then will be be like St. Francis in “Preach the Gospel always and when necesssary use words”.
