Islam is a religeon I really know nothing about, but would prefer for that to change.

The Creation of the Universe

Extraterrestrial Life 😃

Abortion

Sex

Homosexuality

God

Jesus

Moses

Abraham

Who is Mohammed(sp?) What did he do precicley, and what kind of bloke was he?

What do Muslims teach on

lying

stealing

rape

murder

war

government

Whats all this Sheite, Sunni stuff I hear about?

Thanks in avance!

Cool. How…nice! 🙂

A bit different. I particuarily liked the second link. 👍

But…Christ is the son of God. :yup:

So…Well, It seems so nice, and I feel SOOO much better about Muslims and their faith! I sorta wish their way was right cuz it seems so fun! No offence.

I find alot of it to be right, and according to the links, this Muhammad bloke weren’t as bad as some folks make him out to be. :o

‘Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not transgress limits. God does not love transgressors.’ (2.190)
‘If they seek peace, then seek you peace. And trust in God for He is the One that heareth and knoweth all things.’ (8.61)

AWSOME!!!

sigh

While gurrato alaien provides you with links that are very pro-Islam, I suggest you get a variety of sources. I recently read a book called “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and the Crusdades”, that I found very interesting, that will provide a stark contrast to those links

Its important to understand that not all Muslims believe the same thing. In a similar fashion to Christianity having numerous denominations, the same is true for Islam (Sunni Muslims, Shi’ite Muslims, Wahhabi, etc).

Aye. It sorta has the “Allah IS God” thing, not, “We believe him to be…”

Anyways, It always disturbed me that every one got so huffed up about Richards excecution of the Moor prisoners. Its well know that a resisting besieged force is given no quarter. Not to mention Saladins excecution of the Templars.

Oy veh, can’t we just forgive and forget the Crusades!?!?

I guess not…

Shockerfan,

Your punishment for calling Wahhabism a “denomination” will be to go to the black board and write the following 1,000 times:

“I will NEVER again call a movement a denomination or sect.”
“I will NEVER again call a movement a denomination or sect”.
“I will NEVER again call a movement a denomination or sect”.

…etc.

dont be fooled by this. the Quran also says

“Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”
(Sura 9:29)

Muslims are commanded to fight non-Muslims offensively and not only defensively.

i suggest you also check out answering-islam.org/ too and not only Muslim websites

As I said on another thread (where i responded to a Muslim who suggested that people should learn about Islam only from Muslims)

I don’t think this is good advice. Better advice would be that Catholics/Christians read both books by Muslims on Islam and by Catholics/Christians on Islam…

Also, considering dishonesty and deceit in Islam
answering-islam.org/Authors/JR/Future/ch16_understanding_dishonesty.htm

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=90698

I don’t think it would be wise to just rely only on Muslim books, especially when it comes to books on the Islamic belief of Jihad.
I also suggest you check out some of the discussions that Muslims had with Christians here such as

‘Slave-girls as sexual property in the Quran’
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=89778

‘Muhammad And His Personal Enemies’

My bad.

Question for you: Are there more denominations than just Sunni and Shi’ite?

Another question: How do you define movement?

Thanks.

Not in Sunni Islam, but Shi’a Islam has subsequently fractured into dozens of sects since it split off from the main body of Muslims, just as Protestants did when they split with the RCC.
How do you define movement?
A movement in a religion to me is a conscious awareness and emphasis on the part of those involved on something in the faith, or a specific approach as a response to a heresy or something that violates orthodoxy. The key word there is “response”. This contrasts with a sect, which truly does have different beliefs.

And Wahhabism is exactly a movement. It started in the 18th century as a response of some Muslims to various innovations, both practices and beliefs, that had been imported into the faith over the centuries, but which were without support from Scripture or Prophetic Tradition. The movement aimed to return the faithful back to the authentic sources of Islam, and to purge these innovations from practice.

Without a doubt, Wahhabism’s back-to-the-basics, fundamentalist approach successfully saved Muslim orthodoxy from being watered down into chaos and oblivion. Unfortunately, Wahhabism’s conservative push to the right, pulling the ummah back from its liberal innovations…like a train with no brakes…kept moving to the right even after its goals had been accomplished.

Today, Wahhabism is a movement way overdue for being ended, moving so far to the right that it’s ironically now jeopardizing, through a literalism that has become extreme in its rigidity, the orthodoxy it sought to restore. But nevertheless, it is still a movement, not a sect. It does not teach anything except pure, orthodox, Sunni Islam.
