What do Protestants think about 2Peter 1:20-21

It refers to Sin. All unrighteousness is sin, but there is mortal sin and venial sin. Mortal sin is deadly. If you die in the state of mortal sin, you will go to Hell. You must go to Confession in order to be absolved. If you die in the state of venial sin, you will go to Purgatory, and people can pray for you. Mortal sin=murder, Apostasy, etc.

Where in scripture does it make it a reference to the idea of a venial results in going to purgatory?

VENIAL SIN, not a VENIAL RESULT. You must now by know I do not subscribe to Scripture Alone. You asked me my interpretation of 1 John 5:16-17. I gave you an answer. We are not discussing Purgatory here, OH WAIT… could that be one of the TRADITIONS you have been asking about all over the threads???.

Ok give me another verse for personal interpretation (I had previously posted that the CC provides a framework for interpretation, outside of which I cannot operate).

Exactly what Peter says is what I think, however I think it is quite clear it does not say what you say.

16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this.
17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.

What is this sin not leading to death?

What is the matter, ja4? Don’t want to deal with the thread topic? If you acknowledge that some extra-biblical source is needed, will that throw a wrench in your theology? why are you trying to derail this thread?

They claim they do have elders or some pastor to aid them.

They will never mention this, when they browbeat you with Holy Scriptures.

I dont know what to say, they are all so very different in their beliefs, you must know first what they actuall believe and go from there I guess.

Some think female pastors are okie dokie.

Some do not.

I could go on, but I think its been said here already I hope.

What you will find, instead of defense of their so called firm beliefs, is an objection to the Church, the Catholic Church.

And, you have to live with that. Scripture makes it plain how many will rebel.

We can not change that fact.

But I find some of the stuff interesing. Like the revisionist history. (Church started by Constatine, Babylonion Heresy). It’s all stuff I never heard of, having studied history as much as I have.

I would like to see BrewMax, JustAsking, and Protestant 101 have a lively discussion. How about it? Base your discussions on your beliefs, do not refer to Catholic Christian church in your discussion.

Well, all we know of them is that they disagree with Catholic teaching. I would like to see what they believe. Do they agree with one another on their religions?

But, we do know that there will be differences. I’ll play devils advocate here and say that you may hear this:

“we agree on the essentials, and that is what matters”

Then, we have to wait to hear what those essentials are.

I do know this, there are some very intelligent protestant posters here- in fact one on this very thread- that I respect, knows their bible and is very kind.

That is what matters to me. Thats essential to me. Someone who says they are bible only, and actually knows their bible. I can respect that, and I find it refreshing and, sadly -rare in the vast majority of non catholic posters.

Let’s not assume! I have heard that argument before, but I want to see how they agree and disagree.

I agree, but if they are who I think they are, they’re almost Catholic!

That is what matters to me. Thats essential to me. Someone who says they are bible only, and actually knows their bible. I can respect that, and I find it refreshing and, sadly -rare in the vast majority of non catholic posters.

The ones who know their Bibles know their history, they have just been unable to make the leap. From RCIA, I know that for some, converting to CC alienates them from their families and their social circles. It is a very, very hard thing to do.
