In the 15 Promises of Our Lady regarding the Rosary, it says:

“1. Whosoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.”

What do “signal graces” refer to as compared to just “graces”?

Signal Graces are signs sent by God to help us make the right decisions in life. In Scripture, many saw signs from God, and other people received signs or inspirations from God daily. Signal graces usually come about as subtle hints to help keep us moving in the right direction.
I often have something “ccur” to me that many clear my thoughts about something, or make me suddenly realize a blessing or something that needs attention.
Some people dismiss these things as :intuition". I prefer to think of them as the promptings of the Holy Spirit Our Lady, and my guardian angel.

That is what the phrase refers to.

They could be all sorts of actual graces…from unusual help in temptation to help in ones prayer life …etc.

That is not the definition of signal graces. They are not “signs sent by God” per se.

They are… unusual, notable, special…not necessarily “signs”.

The word “signal” makes us moderns think if the traffic light…go …stop etc and turn signals…but that is not what was meant in that older use of the term.

Though one could have such a sign as a signal grace.

Signal graces usually come about as subtle hints to help keep us moving in the right direction - these signs are truly gifts from God.

Remember - there is no such thing as a coincidence, everything happens for a reason! By praying the rosary you will be more conscious of the way that God tries to help you and speak to you every day.

A signal grace is a truly extraordinary grace that truly changes the orientation of the soul. The grace of conversion would be a good example, or those granted before death, or the grace of infused contemplation.
