The Bible id filled with terms,

What my friend do these two terms mean to you?

Redemption & Salvation

Patrick

Redeeming yourself through confessing sins, and absolving of sins. Salvation through being in commune with Christ and participating in sacraments which you get from redemption. That’s how I see it anyways. 🙂

Redemption - Jesus redeems us by His sacrifice on the Cross.

Salvation - We have accepted His gift of redemption and fully cooperate with Him by doing the things He commands us to do: baptism, repentance and works of charity, and we continue to faithfully do these things until we die.

*“Fix your gaze upon Him Who is the Temple of God amongst men. He, in truth, hath offered up His life as a ransom for the redemption of the world. He, verily, is the All-Bountiful, the Gracious, the Most High.”

OK: but for the sake of discussion who is meant by “US”?

SORRY, but I don’t get your point?😊

I think that poster was making a play on your typo, “id” instead of “is”, by making reference to “id”, “ego” and “super-ego.”

🙂

TO ME [my personal opinion] what you share as Redemption sounds more like the path to Salvation?

What’s if anything is the difference between Redemption & Salvation as biblical terms?

OK:D and AGREED!

BUT what do the terms actually mean, and importantly, to WHOM do they apply?

I’m hoping for some non-Catholics to jump in and respond too.

To my understanding, redemption is a gift for every human being who has ever lived, past, present and future. I visualize it as this: Jesus has given every person a winning lottery ticket (redemption). What that person does with the lottery ticket makes all the difference. Here’s my parable on the possible things you can do with your ticket:
  1. You are very busy living your life, so you stick it in a dresser drawer with the intent of cashing it in later. By doing so, you run a real risk of forgetting that you have a winning lottery ticket, and there it sits forever. You can’t get the money unless you take it to the lottery office and cash it in. Eventually, the ticket is forgotten and lost.
  2. You could say, “I don’t need the money,” or “I don’t want the money” or “I don’t believe this is a real winning lottery ticket” and just throw it in the trash. “Who on earth would do that?”, a reasonable person would say. Lots of people do that. Remember, we are talking about spiritual redemption here, the “lottery ticket” is just a metaphor. Many people reject Our Lord’s winning lottery ticket.
  3. You accept the winning lottery ticket as the wonderful windfall that it is, give thanks, and run right down to the nearest lottery office and cash it in!
Which of these three people are saved? The one who excitedly ran down to the lottery office and turned it in, received the money and walked away with the security of knowing he has enough money to last the rest of his life. That person was saved. He did what he was supposed to do with the winning lottery ticket and received his reward. Now he has eternal security. The other two, not so much.

That’s my take on redemption and salvation.

Redemption: to pay so as to repossess what was once your own. You pay a pawn shop to redeem what was pawned. Christ paid his life to redeem his people from the curse of the law brought about by sin.

Salvation: to rescue from peril. It is the effect of redemption for those who accept redemption in the manner prescribed by God. The redeemed are freed from condemnation. That is the start of their salvation. Ultimately salvation carries those who are Christ’s to eternal fellowship with God.

Does anyone dare claim that they have never fallen into the #1 or #2 categories in this “parable”? Does anyone dare claim that they can guarantee that they won’t fall into one of those categories ever again for the rest of their time on earth?

SORRY, but I don’t understand your post? “ONE OF THOSE CATEGORIES”🤷

If you’re referencing salvation? Christ Instituted Sacramental Confession {John 20:19-23} to make POSSIBLE forgiveness and an eternity with HIM:)
