My Wife’s sister who experiences same sex attraction, lives in a “marriage” with another woman, and recently became pregnant as a result of IVF. We know this because another family member made us aware of the new life. My wife’s sister has not told her yet but left a message that she has some good news to tell her. Our relationship with her is cordial but very limited. We are trying to keep a loving relationship open with her but she has not really responded to any of our invitations to family gatherings, etc. She is aware we follow the teachings of Christ through His Catholic Church, and she has left the church and joined another. We are almost at a loss as to how to respond to this news. We want to show her love so she will not turn even further away, however we can’t endorse her actions. We of course need to love this child with all the love that Christ has shown us but we also need to show our children that living as they do is not how we are made to live. We teach NFP and an introduction to Theology of the Body, so we are familiar with how her actions go against the free, total, faithful and fruitful love that Christ taught us to live. We are just struggling with how to respond to this situation. Should we attend birthdays, baptisms, etc? Any resources, prayers or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless!
