I was at my friend’s house today, and when I was there, strange things started happening to my phone. My battery jumped straight from 20% to 9%, and then back up to 20% when I started charging it; later on, my Internet reception started going down when I picked up my phone to use it. My friend said that her house had spirits inside it that interfered with technology and stuff like that.
I read a post on here a while back saying that we don’t necessarily invalidate the existence of ghosts, but that we’re definitely forbidden to attempt contact with spirits and anything like that. Is that correct? And if it is, what should I think/do about this situation?

Yes, Ricky, you’re right. We are forbidden to have anything to do with spirits or ghosts, as they are often demons in disguise.
Maybe you could give your friend some holy water (you can usually find it in a church), and sprinkle it in each room. We asked our priest to bless our house.
Of course, if you’re talking about technology, anything’s possible. Phones and computers will develop glitches from any number of causes, none of which I ever thought were spiritual. Although maybe they are crosses sent by God to strengthen us and give us patience!

Here’s a quote:
The Bible provides examples showing the folly and failures of those who claimed the ability to predict the future based on their own powers or those of spirits (Daniel 2:27, etc.). God calls the word of diviners “nonsense,” “lies” and “deception” for foolish people (Ezekiel 13:8; Jeremiah 14:14; Isaiah 44:25). God said, “Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!” (Ezekiel 13:3). If an Israelite lived the deceitful practice of being a medium, it was punishable by death (Leviticus 20:27). The presence of a medium or spiritist among God’s people of Israel was considered a defilement (Leviticus 19:31). All these practices take people further from their Creator, the true and living God.

I had a ‘something’ that played with the lights for a year or two. I would undress, go to the toilet, leaving the bedroom light on, only to find it switched off when I came out of the loo. One night I walked backwards down the hall, keeping my eye on the light, and the same old thing happened when I came out of the loo. “Gotcha”, I shouted," I know you are doing that, and I want you to stop it." So it did. And started playing silly tricks with my electric alarm clock, which would sound off without being set, in early hours, or during the day, or the radio would come on. The clock will be fine for months, then have a few days of misbehaving, them 10 or more months being OK, so I don’t believe it to be an electrical fault.

I’ve heard of so many spooky happenings in old houses, from friends I trust to be truthful, and my own daughter and grandsons can see ‘people’ which annoys them sometimes.

I say spirits and ghosts exist, and my approach to them is to acknowledge them and otherwise leave them alone. If they are troublesome, get an excorcist, or at least ask them to stop and go away.

Yes, there are such phenomena as ‘ghosts’ and ‘spirits’, and indeed caution should be exercised for the reasons given in Viki63’s post.

Folks in my family, including myself have experienced both ‘good’ and ‘malevolent’ goings on.

In instances, such as lights, door bells, telephones {including rocking noises in their cradles], televisions and radios suddenly operating without obvious cause, and even your bed going up and down - they may well be attention seeking of souls wishing your prayers. 👍

I am an “agnostic” on the issue of ghosts.

The whole nature of human death is that once it has occurred, the subject is no longer involved in human life, which would include messing with the technology!

At the same time, our LORD never said the world didn’t have them, either.

They are not our concern. IMNAAHO

I have never had any experience of this kind myself, but I know people – including one or two in my immediate family – who have had experiences that are very hard to explain in any other way. One woman, L., has had several such experiences. The most memorable story happened when she was about 12 or 13 (which specialists will say is the typical age for such things.) With her parents and her younger sisters, she had moved into a new house just a few days earlier, where she saw a man walk into a wall in the kitchen. She described him, and neighbors identified him from her description as a former owner of the house who had died quite recently. I have heard L. tell the story several times, and sometimes she adds, cryptically, “I don’t believe in ghosts, even though I’ve seen a ghost myself.”

I believe in Ghosts and spirits or Demons and Angels, Though those things may be interchangeable. I think it odd that one could not but believe in other aspects of Christianity.

HOWEVER I also believe that a phone going from 20 to 9 to 20 is probably more of an electrical issue or technological fluke than a ghost. If every time my computer or Iphone does something odd, it is a ghost, then I live in one of the most haunted places on earth.

Demons? yes, very much. Ghosts and ghouls? no. the human soul only goes to one of three places after death. Heaven, hell or purgatory. Human souls don’t get “lost” wandering the world and haunting people. If your friend has “ghosts” they are more than likely demons, if every other logical explanation has been disproven (such as ****** Wi-Fi, broken battery, etc.)

You are of course right that in many instances such phenomena have natural causes, BUT there are, I believe significant times when the natural explanation appears less likely.

I will give you but one of my own experiences for you to ponder on.

A few years ago I offered up a Feast of All Hallows plenary indulgence for the Holy Souls, asking God in His Mercy and Love to multiply its efficacy to include as many souls as He deigns to.
As part of qualifying the indulgence I went to the main cemetery in the city, and prayed for the Holy Souls - inviting them to join with me in prayer. After an hour or so it started to get dark, so I headed back home. When I got back it was almost dark, and I carefully walked diagonally across the kitchen, heading for the light switch in the hall.
As I did so the 'phone in the kitchen *, started to ‘rock’ in its cradle, emitting that characteristic contact sound, which continued staccato fashion for 3-5 seconds, then stopped. What simultaneously came strongly into my head was the feeling that one or more Souls were saying their thanks as they ascended to Heaven. It was a powerful and warm sensation I felt.

ps. While I physically live alone since the death of my wife, I can assure you that I never ‘feel’ alone, nor do I ever feel seriously ‘threatened’ - even via dreams.

Satan knows I learned how to rapidly get myself out of the dream state, and that when he used to try it on, that it would lead to me getting up, going to the living room and having a session of prayer - something I am sure he quickly felt was ‘counter productive’ to his aims.*

Matthew 14:25-26 In the fourth watch of the night he came towards them, walking on the sea, and when the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. ‘It is a ghost,’ they said, and cried out in fear.

Luke 24:37-40 In a state of alarm and fright, they thought they were seeing a ghost. But he said, ‘Why are you so agitated, and why are these doubts stirring in your hearts? See by my hands and my feet that it is I myself. Touch me and see for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh and bones as you can see I have.’ And as he said this he showed them his hands and his feet.

Strange things do happen , there is no doubt about that , after my dad passed,
We had doors open, lights come on in the middle of the night, etc
It lasted for several months, just things happened randomly,
I went to a spiritualist, she discribed my dad, and that he was with me,
Told me about his deformed feet, only I knew about it,
she told me to pray for him, and that he was happy,
Then it all stoped , sometimes I feel he is around, but not often now,he just comes to check up on me,

That’s very weird that this topic came up today…

Last night, sadly, I had to put my eleven-year-old greyhound to sleep (she had bone cancer and broke her leg last night.)

This morning, my sister (flat-out atheist who doesn’t believe in such things) and I (pagan, so I believe, but I always look for the rational explanation first) and I were downstairs in the house when we heard the sound of an animal running back and forth in the upstairs hallway. To explain, I have (had, rather), four pets–two greyhounds and two cats, and they all liked to run up and down the upstairs hallway (it’s a nice straight stretch with nothing in the way). So at first, we didn’t think anything of it…until my sister realized that one of the cats was over with her in the kitchen (hoping my sister would give her a bit of her breakfast), and the other cat and surviving greyhound were in the living room area with me. IOW, all the surviving animals were downstairs, where we could see them…and we could clearly hear an animal running up and down the upstairs hallway. On impulse, I called out the deceased dog’s name, and the sounds stopped.

We’re thinking there has to be a rational explanation, but we’re certainly not coming up with one.

I think your friend ought to call an electrician.

I don’t mean to entirely disbelieve what you experienced, because I, too, have heard unexplained sounds at extraordinarily important moments in my life.

That being said, we used to have red squirrels living in our attic crawl space, and when they would bounce between the floors and walls, it often sounded like a person or much larger animal running back and forth.

:eek::eek:

That is dangerous. I lost my dad when I was 19. I turned to the occult. It did not go well.

 Needless to say I never want to mess with that again!

Yes I would agree with you on avoiding the occult ,
Like, don’t go playing with real hand grenades ,
I only went one time, it was just a curiosity thing,
And it’s now about 14-15. Years since I did that

It is amazing that you had the gift of feeling close to your Dad. I do not know what your faith is but if you are a Catholic – we are asked not to go to spiritualist. We can pray for our beloved dead who are not really dead just their bodies. To not go to a spiritualists is actually part of living the Ten Commandments-- It comes under the first commandment – “you shall worship the Lord your God and him alone shall you serve” It is really a great teaching found in the CCC- hope you get to check it out one day. Why is it that just because something happens that can’t immediately be explained there is a jump to conclude it must be a ghost. That is totally irrational.
Its like those people who see something in the sky they can’t explain so they immediately conclude it must be an alien spacecraft.

I believe in good and evil ghosts as well, I have seen descriptions of people encountering both types.

Its also important to keep in mind, back when Jesus appeared to the apostles, after he had risen, he had to prove it was actually him and NOT A GHOST, so this implies the word ‘ghost’ was a recognized term back then, meaning people had probably see ghosts here and there, just like they do today.

However I dont believe we can know their purpose, its probably something beyond what we can comprehend anyway. I believe the same thing when it comes to UFOs too, the more I think about it, I think all these things are just things we are not meant to know about, and its quite likely our beliefs about them and what they are/where they come from, are probably way wrong.

If its allowed on here, I saw a video the other day of this guy who claimed he had the ability to summon a UFO/ Ghost, he had live news crew on site, THEY picked the location and time too, they were not expecting much, but he was successful…it showed up upon his request, right on news cameras in front of everyone! Some people that saw this started calling telling him he was demonically possessed and should not be doing this…its a really good video, crisp and clear. If anyone wants to see it, let me know and I will put up the link.
