You don’t have to launch a crusade, but when you respond to heresy with, “more power to them”…well, again, I don’t think Athanasius would respond to Arius by shrugging and saying, “Hey, let him believe what he wants, more power to him.”Sorry, I am none of those folks. I am me. I have got enough problems without worrying about what some other human being who has the same FREE WILL that I have, wants to believe or who they wish to look to for spiritual teaching. Look, if you feel the need to fight the heresies in this world, more power TO YOU. That’s not me. Seriously!!!
Ok, maybe I should not have said “more power to them”. I could recognise the heresy, talk to the person involved and tell them what they believe is a heresy, but beyond that I can do nothing. I have my own soul to worry about. And they that choose to follow heresy have the God given free will to do so. What more do you want? Maybe fighting heresies is your ministry and if it is I am happy for you. The whole thing about Joyce Meyer is she has overcome much that has happened to her and I respect her for that fact. I don’t follow her, I don’t believe her what or how she teaches, folks that follow her, is, I repeat, fine with me. They have their own free will to do so. I’m reminded of a quote by John Calvin: *A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God’s truth is attacked and yet would remain silent. *
I recognize that false teachers are as much a condemnation to their followers as much as to them, for regarding followers of false teachers God “sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness” (2 Thess 2:11-12).Ok, maybe I should not have said “more power to them”. Her theology is a heretical one that sends people to hell. And you “wish her the best”? Simply because she overcame some life issues? Oprah overcame life issues as well, that doesn’t excuse the neognostic heresies she often supports openly on her show and website. Are you going to respect her strength as well? I don’t intend to point a gun anyone to make them believe sound theology, but neither am I going to excuse it or soften what it does.I have found her story compelling. All the abuse she suffered and how she has gone on with her life. I respect her strength. As for her theology, well, she’s entitled to believe what she wants to. I wish her the best!
Joyce Meyer gives very good spiritual talks and probably reaches many people who ordinarily wouldn’t go to church. The problem is that she does not teach and practise the full gospel - the Catholic Faith.I watched her show a couple times. I enjoyed it and found that some of what she said made sense to me.
However I found it odd that she is a divorced and remarried woman. We all know what the Bible says about that.
What do you think of her? Is she like Benny Hinn without the miracles, the stereotypical televangelist? Or is she the real deal?
