Easy to ask–Maybe no so easy to answer. What do you believe about grace? About the different kinds of grace?

Anyone can ask god directly for his help. His help gives us more grace. Christians use the word salvation in an exclusive way, but Jews also us the plural form of the word. Yeshuot means salvations, which are the many ways in which God helps us. A careful reading of the new tesaments reveals that there are many salvations which are described, the writers were jews afterall.

In addition, I would say God sends us grace to move toward the good even before we ask. We are then free to accept or reject it.

I would say that Grace is the strength and virtue that God gives each of us each day so that we have “Grace sufficient for the day”

There are different types of Grace.

Saving Grace is what we receive at Baptism.

There are many different ways to receive it and use it. But it is always good and always given freely by Christ.

My very favorite is the grace we can receive from God every day in the Eucharist. Thats awesome!

Grace comes from God free of charge and is always amazing. I believe that because we as humans are made in His image we too have a limited capacity to offer grace to those around us. Easily seen when we offer mercy and consolation to someone who has wronged us even if they don’t wish to be reconciled to us. Always seems to work out that when I take the first step in offering grace the other person is rather receptive and a humbling friendship usually occurs.

I don’t really delve into the various theological constructs of this kind of grace and that kind of grace. I think when we try to define too much we close our focus in too pin pointedly and that causes the loss of view and the beauty of Gods grace as a whole picture.

I think the Catholic idea of grace being imparted through sacraments and sacramentals (if I understand those terms right) is pretty interesting. Like various rites or blessing or by various prayers and other devotions. The lives of famous Catholic Saints speak volumes on this practice bearing much good spiritual fruit.

If we want to dig out the systematic theology books we can go with these:

Sanctifying Grace (sometimes called Saving Grace) is the Grace that is given to men at Baptism.

Actual Grace (sometimes called Daily Grace) is the grace God gives us to help us to do what is taught instead of animal instinct (You insult my wife and I forgive you without first applying force to your head)

Prevenient Grace. (sometimes called many other things) This is the Grace that causes men to seek out God before they actually know of Him. This is also the Grace that helps the unchurched to find their way to God. The Council of Trent called Prevenient Grace the grace that is the beginning of Justification. This is also the Grace that calls men to repent when they have transgressed.

*PC Note: When I use the word men I mean both men and women.

I agree with all the points made here. But it is my experience in everyday life that paints
grace a little differently in terms of how it shows up. Grace for me is usually an interruption
of sorts. And it can be very “rude.” But I wouldn’t have it any other way. It is an awakening
experience for me.

Grace is a term that, in addition to refering to the help that God gives us, also refers to the sharing of the Divine Nature with creatures. Sanctifying Grace is the Divine Life of God poured into us and united with us, lighting us up and making us “partakers of the Divine Nature” as St. Peter said.

Peace and God bless!
