What do you believe is the motive behind false prophets?

Hello. I have a question about Islam. I know that Christians believe Mohammad (islam’s prophet) was a false prophet. Obviously if you are a Christian, you would know him to be a false phrophet because he denies Jesus as the son of God, he denied the crucifixion, and he denied Jesus rising from the death.

My question is- why would Mohammad say this? Do you believe he was lying for political gain, or do you believe he hallucinated seeing the angel Gabriel?

I am not trying to offend anybody. I just would like to know what Christians think of him and his claims.

If he was a false prophet, that means he must have been lying, or… well, possibly hallucinating when speaking to the angel Gabriel. Also too, I guess the angel gabriel could of been satan in disguise.

I’m trying to ask this in the nicest way possible. I would like your opinions on this.
 
False prophets would be motivated by egoism, desire for material gain, or the devil.

So basically, you believe he was lying. Meaning, he knew he was lying and did it for his own agenda?

Do you think that maybe the angel Gabriel that appeared to him was Satan in disguise?

Well I know that many times when he did something, he said that allah allowed it. For example when he married Aisha, who was 6 years old at the time, and consummated the marriage at age 9, (mohammad was about 50 yr old), he said that he had been having dreams and visions about her and said that Allah made it “lawful” for him to marry her.

And for anybody who denies what I just said, study islam, ask an Imam, they will tell you. I have 3 muslim friends aswell. I would not be making such a huge statement if I didn’t know it to be true.

Sorry guys, but I don’t think God would want a 50 year old man having a marriage bed with a 9 year old child.

Plus, mind you, Mohammad was going to consummate the marriage when she was 6, but the girls father asked him to wait 3 years. He abided by the fathers wishes, but unfortunately, they consummated when she was 9.

He also married his sons wife or fiance, as I recall, taken by her beauty and claiming some sort of divinely given authority for the crime. Seems like at least some of his revelations were of the self-serving variety.

Thats true. I do know about that. I too, agree that he did this for himself to enjoy. I believe another reason why he got so many followers was because he has promised virgins in heaven. It does not say anything about 72, that is a made up number, but the Quaran and the hadiths BOTH mention virgins in paradise.

Jesus said there is no marriage or sex in heaven. To me, having sex in heaven would be a sin. I don’t want to be surrounded by lust in heaven. It is disgusting, but I can understand why he would get followers persuading them with this.

Power, money, becoming “immortal” in a sense that you would always be remembered as a great prophet of God. Or perhaps a hallucination, or lies from the devil. I lean more towards the idea that they want to be immortal. Knowing that people will revere them long after their deaths, comforts them because they don’t believe in the afterlife, and that’s how they avoid disappearing completely

I guess it’s a guy thing, the best some male minds can can come up with for heaven. In one description of Valhalla, the Viking heaven, the inhabitants fight all day and party all night.

I read on an Imam islamic apologetic site, that the women in heaven only get to be with their husbands. The women do not get virgins, but that Allah would take away the womans jealousy so that her husband can have sex with all of his virgins.

My jaw dropped. I can’t believe women are okay with this.
 
Possibly a messiah complex. One thinking they are destined to become a savior.

We’re warned about this in the NT that “if an angel should come to you preaching anything other than what we have preached let him be cursed” because it is a fallen angel. Mohammed spoke to a fallen angel that gave him the message of Islam. It is all part of Satan’s plan to drive Christianity out of the holy land and from the earth.

Anyone who calls themself a prophet and does not confess Christ (that is the clue) is a false prophet. Anyone who calls themself a prophet and prophesies words that do not reflect the teaching of the gospel is a false prophet. We know Mohammed is a false prophet because he does not profess Christ and he does not reflect the teaching of the gospel.

I see many flaws in Islam and it bothers me. Mostly because many of those flaws are perverted.
 
Like Joseph Smith, I think Mohammed did it for the girls…the young young girls. :bigyikes:

Koresh of Branch Davidian fame was also a “messiah” in the same vein.

Given some of my history, I have a different take on this.

What if a person is raised in an environment where those around them go to a church of some sort, but do not believe at all? The whole concept of truth in religion does not apply. The notion of making something up is nothing different than the rest of everything else that is going on. So, a false profit in this situation is just doing more of the same. Maybe they have some creative energy that they’d like to give to others in this little “game” of theirs.

Just more thoughts on the subject. I think it is by design that we can’t determine what goes on in the mind of others.

First, to speak of motives implies that person exists. I’m not even certain there was a man named Jesus Christ claiming to be the son of God. If he did exist, there are many possible explanations. For one, he may have been delusional. For two, he may have enjoyed the power, wealth, and sex that comes from having believers. For three, maybe he’s a victim himself indoctrinated as a child.

As you say, I’m trying to say this is the nicest possible way, with no disrespect intended. 🙂

Well sure, devoted Muslims love the one true God and seek to do his will, and serve him. Islam means “submission to God’s will”, and Muslim means “one who has submitted”. But The beliefs of Islam, and the Islamic view of God is highly distorted. I think that’s what he was trying to say anyway lol
