very much catholic nobody but god deserves the title Father or Holy Father.

Before I was Catholic, I just asked the minister, priest or pastor what he prefers I call him. And then that’s what I call him or her.

I still ask whenever I meet a non-Catholic person in any faith. Buddhist nun, Baptist minister, or Wiccan priesn we asked was how he preferred to be called? I would have probably resorted to ā€œDoctorā€ but my husband asked and was warmly told, ā€œI prefer you call my Ian.ā€ So we do.

Breaking down barriers is the first step to loving our neighbor, isn’t it?

Hey, I just remembered something! When Pope John Paul the Great was serving as priest under cover, and he took youth groups out on hikes and kayak trips, he asked them to call him ā€œUncleā€ instead of ā€œFatherā€ as it was dangerous to be a priest in the open.

I understand that when he became a pope and invited some of his old youth group parishioners to the Vatican, they insisted on calling him ā€œUncleā€ instead of ā€œHoly Father.ā€ And he was very fine with that. And his old Jewish friends called him by his first name and he was fine with that, as well. .

Since I didn’t consider the priest to be my ā€œspiritual fatherā€ but a ā€œfriend in Christā€, such a term would not be something I would find that reflects our relationship.

When we first became acquainted I called Mikeā€¦ā€œFather Mikeā€ just like everyone else did in his parish…when we became more than acquaintences, I addressed him for a while as ā€œFriend Mikeā€ā€¦he never objected…then as our friendship grew…just ā€œMikeā€ as we began sharing very very personal information about our lives, thoughts, beliefs, struggles and joys.
Just explaining my personal Catholic preference and the reason for it.

I already spoke to priests and they agree with me. Reverend is more than suitable. Even some priests view the pope as the CEO of the largest city state and bank in the world. Its all person prefernce on what you call a priest.

hmmm… even when I was Protestant I still referred to Catholic Priests as Father.

How many sacraments does the Church have?

What is the name of your parish?

What are the two parts of the Mass?

Thanks.

You cannot be angry and pray at the same time.
Oh, yes one can. A prayer is a talk with God. Sometimes, there is anger. He wants to hear us even when we are angry. I cannot think of anyone better to go to when angry, either.

I would call him ā€œFatherā€. Out of respect.

Same w/ a Jewish Rabbi. Call him ā€œRabbiā€.

Father X usually.

That’s how they prefer to be called.

You can’t call someone ā€˜Reverend X’, because ā€˜The Reverend’ is a title, not a form of address.

ā€˜Pastor’ is a title in some denominations, but in the Roman Church it is more of a specific job description I think (though all priests are called to be pastors of their flock).

Our priest is Father John, he doesn’t mind any thing respectfull. but he also said many call him ā€˜Little John’ and I think he is short, skinny and cute, One of the priest in our cluster told me to call him Jim is fine. Well I have a bro Jim and that really made it special to me. Jim rolls off my tongue so well. šŸ™‚ So I have another brother Jim. šŸ™‚
