What do you call her?

In the Gospel of Luke it is obvious that atleast some reverence should be shown to The Blessed Virgin Mary. Luke 1:48
Why don’t protestants call her blessed…It’s in the Bible! 🙂
RCWarrior 821 it’s not that protestants think that Mary isn’t blessed, without a doubt she was blessed, she was Gods chosen. What most Christians don’t understand is why The Catholics pray to her or through her. No disrespect to The Blessed Virgin Mary but her job was to give birth and nurture Christ until he was ready to deliver his message. Just as it is our job to be disciples and spread the word.
Did God not say make no graven images? Ex 20:4
Did Jesus not say the only way to the Father is through me? John 14:6
Christ died for our sins and rose again, their is no man on earth today nor has there been since Christ left that has that authority NONE!!! When you take communion do you remember Christ or ask for something else. I confess my sins to The Father Almighty and no one else…
Let’s start with this and see where it goes…

FWIW

  • “All generations will shop at Wal-Mart” is a prediction
    but
  • “All generations must shop at Wal-Mart” is a command
There is no command in that verse, no imposing of an obligation.
It does not follow that because Protestants do not make a great fuss about her, they therefore lack respect for her. If Catholics would show a little more interest in other Christians, they would find out for themselves that there is a great deal of respect for her. People who look down their noses at - for example - the C of E, are unlikely to come across the Ecumenical Society of the Blessed Vigin Mary; & are therefore likely to have misconceptions about Anglican attitudes to the BVM. That is not the fault of the C of E.

Mary is not as important in Protestantism as she tends to be in Catholicism - but that may be a very good thing; it is perfectly possible that we make rather too much of her. It is after Christ, not Mary, Who is the central figure of the NT; just as it is Christ Who is the Saviour, the Lord of the Church, & the only Redeemer & Mediator. Just as it is the Holy Spirit - not Mary - Who came upon the Apostles at Pentecost. Maybe we can learn from our Protestant brethren.

As for what I call Mary…

The Blessed Virgin or the Blessed Mother.

Why pray to her or any other saints?
**The Intercession & Communion of Saints
**
is my answer to that.

Just one or all three?😉

try this site

jesus-is-lord.com/mary.htm
Quite a “disgustingly amazing site”… jesus-is-lord.com/index.htm and whats really interesting is that the author of the site claims to be “black”…and then does a real hammer job on Martin Luther King, Jr jesus-is-lord.com/king.htm But hey… it seems that the woman who authored the site…hates just about everyone equally… Dare I say she’s quite the “xtian”?

Actually, I would say that she is but one “whacko” out of the many…who solely define the truth according to their mystically attain sole revelations vis a vis the “truth”…🤷

Even the Catholic Church does not require the invocation of the BVM.
Correct. It is optional if you want to put it that way.
One can show honor to her and the saints, with reverence and appreciation for the ways they served our Lord, without invocation.
Veneration of Mary is honoring her for who she was, what she did, and how she did what she did. Its not worship, its showing thanks and respect for her.
If you choose to invoke the saints, without setting them eqaul to our Savior, then I say fine.
As you know…we Catholics do not place the saints or Mary on equal with Jesus Christ or God… That’s just wrong. We consider Mary and the Saints as “special” and to be good examples to be emulated…but no more than Christ.
They may or may not be able to hear you, but God certainly does, and He knows your good intensions.
We believe they can…🙂 But even if they don’t…you’re right, God certainly does…and He does know our intentions and hearts.
Blessings,
Jon
And to you as well!!

This is probably a way to be expedient at what ever point they are pushing, and a knee jerk reaction to what they perceive as idolatry. I think she is ordinary in that she is flesh descending of Adam a fallen man like the rest of us and that she doesn’t posses divine nature, I agree with Saint Augustine that man is like a beast between two riders, in that we have a “slave-will”. It is only of the power of God that she was saved.
Although what you say might be true, I think that a large part of it comes from a distain for the Catholic Church. It is a purely emotional arguement.

I would agree with you in that Mary is not God, but I would qualify it and say that we all share in the divine nature through Christ’s intercession as 2Peter says. So Mary does share in the divine nature because she is saved by Christ just as all other men and women are.

Protestants and Protestants only!

How would you respond if you heard a Protestant preacher say that “As far as I am concerned, she became a whore and is now in Hell.”

Where’d you see/hear that?

Local goofball. The conversation started with him saying that Biblically, she was never baptised and opposed his ministry. Therefore, she was not one of the elect and not saved. It degraded from there.
