“Protest” meant “reject”. As I said, what was rejected was the Diet of Speyers. It proved to be a largely transient episode in the history of the Reformation, bascially a failed peace effort, but the name stuck. They are protesting are they not? I’m sorry if I offend you, but that’s what they are.
shrug So I should call you a Protestant as well, in other words saying that you’re protesting against God’s true will? I think you would take offense at that, would you not? They are protesting are they not? I’m sorry if I offend you, but that’s what they are.
Yes, I am protesting Roman Catholic belief. Indeed, I am totally opposed to the flawed theology of Roman Catholicism, a concept totally foreign to the Early Church Fathers and Scripture. There is so much truth in your words here. Yes, I am “protesting” or become Protestant by protesting Protestant belief. Indeed, I am totally opposed to Protestant approached in their flawed theology, a concept totally foreign to the Early Church Fathers, and Scripture.
I’d really like to hear more about this. Could you link me to some reading material on the subject? (Preferably online, because I can’t afford to purchase lots of books on these subjects right now.)“Protest” meant “reject”. As I said, what was rejected was the Diet of Speyers. I am Catholic. I am defending what the Church upheld for over 2,000 yrs. Protestantism didn’t exist until the 1500s by a disgrunted old Augustinian monk, name Martin Luther. He and others have no right. Umph, let me say, they have no AUTHORITY to reform the Church. It was not them whom Jesus give the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. He gave those Keys to Peter.shrug So I should call you a Protestant as well, in other words saying that you’re protesting against God’s true will? Protestantism is more of a flawed system that grown out of 1500s. There is no historical proof that Protestantism belief is consider to be ancient.Yes, I am protesting Roman Catholic belief. Indeed, I am totally opposed to the flawed theology of Roman Catholicism, a concept totally foreign to the Early Church Fathers and Scripture.
So you claim, and so I disagree. Your opinion is yours. My opinion is mine. It’s unlikely that you asserting yours to be correct will do any good here.I am Catholic. I love your misinterpretations, but that’s not really the point of this thread. It was not them whom Jesus give the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. He gave those Keys to Peter.
Roman Catholicism is one of the 5 Patriarchiate Church long before the Schism. There were five Rome, Antioch, Jerusalem, Alexandria, and Constantinople.
I see…four of the five Patriarchates are still together, and one is separated…but it’s the four that departed from unity? That honestly makes me laugh. Perhaps you should re-evaluate what unity means.Though the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church split in 1054 AD, the West and East still maintain its heritage from the Apostles themselves. The only difference is Catholicism maintain this unity. Eastern Orthodoxy is a complete departure from the concept of being united.
You assume apostolic succession, as the RCC teaches it, is a valid teaching, and is a defining characteristic of unity within the true church. I simply reject that such a teaching is valid. Unity is determined by being united to the teachings of Christ, which I believe the RCC has deviated from. It’s really that simple. It’s also something that we’re probably not going to agree on, nor make headway on.Protestantism is a complete departure because they lack Apostolic Succession.
Baptism, salvation through faith, and various other Christian Traditions (found in the earliest days of the church) are still present in many, if not all, Protestant denominations. As far as I know, Protestantism did away with Christian Tradition except the tradition of going to Sunday for worship.
To me, it has. To you, your claims have been proven. Neither of us will accept evidence produced by the other. However, using this rhetoric, followed by a long series of out-of-context quotes (most of which have been debunked previously) doesn’t actually prove your position.Unfortunately PC Master, your claim that you are “totally opposed to the flawed theology of Roman Catholicism, a concept totally foreign to the Early Church Fathers and Scripture” has not been proven.
That you still toss around the number of 33,000 shows that you have very little understanding of Protestantism, and are trying to fit it into a Roman Catholic framework. However, I expect your rhetoric will sway any Roman Catholics to your way of thinking, because of the predisposition to thinking in that manner. As we can all see PC Master assertion that the Catholic Church teachings is flawed and foreign to the ECF is wrong. Rather, we see Protestantism is a flawed system that no Christian should follow. In Protestantism it only fractures. There are 33,000 Protestant denomination, ladies and gentlemen. Each man is his own magisterium. You can if you wish make your own church if you feel your home church is teaching something that is contrary to Scripture.
I see, so the Great Schism, and the Reformation, and all the other schisms with (not from or against) the Roman Catholic Church don’t count as fractures?God did not intend his Church to fracture. He teaches that His Church is One.
It is times like these that it is quite clear you don’t know what charity means, much less offensive intent. But I presume you’ve searched Manny’s heart and know his intent, farbeit for you to show lack of chairty, PC.This is exactly the offensive intent I spoke of. Lack of charity in your heart is saddening.
First off, I’ve noticed nothing but uncharitable, snide, and narcissistic remarks from you throughout this entire thread. You flaunt the term “Roman Catholic” extremely loosely, but this is clearly a misnomer on your part. Roman Catholics are only a part of the Catholic Church, albeit one of the largest parts.Think of it in parts of the body. The fingers are different from the toes, but still are a part of the body and have many of the same characteristics.I stand by my previous statements. I also reject Teflon93’s most recent rhetoric as exactly that (rhetoric, something designed to bolster an argument, while effectively adding no actual substance).
To call one being in protest to God’s one true church is to call one a heretic, which is not any more charitable than if I said “all Roman Catholics are heretics”. I have no doubt that I’d get banned for such a comment, so yes, it’s uncharitable to say such things.
At some point, PC Master will look up the definitions of terms he throws around.I stand by my previous statements. I also reject Teflon93’s most recent rhetoric as exactly that (rhetoric, something designed to bolster an argument, while effectively adding no actual substance).

Go to Wikipedia and type in “Diet of Speyer”. Obviously you don’t accept anything that Wiki says at face value, it could have been edited by some radical bigot of either persuasion. However the broad outline will be correct, and there are also links to other material.I’d really like to hear more about this. Could you link me to some reading material on the subject? That is honest. Thank you. There is so much truth in your words here. Yes, I am “protesting” or become Protestant by protesting Protestant belief. Indeed, I am totally opposed to Protestant approached in their flawed theology, a concept totally foreign to the Early Church Fathers, and Scripture.
You might want to try Christian…or evangelical Christian…or baptist Christian…or methodist Christian.Ultimately, Protestants will continue to be called Protestants simply because there is no other descriptive label for non-Catholic non-Orthodox Christian communities birthed in the various Reformation movements.
