What do you call protestants?

You might want to try Christian…or evangelical Christian…or baptist Christian…or methodist Christian.

That may be quite too painful for some who ironically expect no less from others…but we can at least ask.

…
I call Protestants Christians all the time. However, there is a need to distinguish between Protestant, Orthodox, and Catholic Christians.

Irony does not mean what you think it means. But just as there’s a doctrine of “sola Atemi”, I presume there is a “Lexiconus Atemus” as well.

So are Catholics Christian, Atemi?

I usually just say Protestant. When discussing relationships with Rome, and if the discussion includes Eastern Orthodoxy, I’ll sometimes use “Schismatics”. They are Christians, to be sure, but Protestant is my preferred category, since they’re in a state of separation from Rome.

If their in my wifes family and not in my presence, I call them crazy. If they’re on my catholic side I call them cafateria Catholics. If they’re on my mom’s side I just hope I don’t see them…

But if I’m talking to them and they are being nice I will show proper respect…I call Church of Christ …Christian…I call Baptists…Baptist…I call Methodists…Methodist…

It’s hard talking to or about my Church of Christ family and we practice calling CCD “bible class” just so we don’t slip and reveal that we are Catholic now.

Are you that keen to raise Protestantism from 33,000 to 33,001 denominations?
Considering the absolutely huge amount of doctrinal disunity and fracturing there is among one billion Catholics, that sounds like an improvement to me.

Glass houses are not very forgiving on stone throwers.

Once again, ladies and gentlemen, a peek into the universe of Pope Atemi I, wherein infallible claims are a regular occurrence and wherein no evidence need ever be provided.

But keep making bold assertions in your subordinate clauses, Atemi. We’ll keep right on refuting them in fuller threads. That IS the point of the forum, you know.

First off, I’ve noticed nothing but uncharitable, snide, and narcissistic remarks from you throughout this entire thread.
If you’d like to bring some of these to my attention via PM or other medium, feel free. Most of my comments are genuine, and I often just “get straight to it”, posting bluntly. Sometimes I use comparative examples (duly noted as such, as not to confuse the reader), but I’m not aware that my comments are snide, uncharitable (depending on what you require in terms of charity) or narcissistic.
You flaunt the term “Roman Catholic” extremely loosely, but this is clearly a misnomer on your part.
sigh

There’s an entirely separate thread on this topic over here. Feel free to post there if my use of Roman Catholic bothers you.

I take it that’s the primary source of your offense?
Now hypothetically, for someone to call Catholics heretics is laughable. I know you haven’t said it directly, but you’ve tended to hint at it in your posts. If Catholics are heretics, how would that make Protestants not Heretics?
Perhaps heretic is not the best term. Looking up a full range of definitions from a variety of sources reveals what is, perhaps, the source of the confusion. Heresy is often viewed in terms of differing with established earthly religious organizations and their teachings. I don’t much care about these organizations, but rather choose to focus on agreement with God’s truth.

Allow me to clarify by restating. To call me a Protestant is essentially to say that I am against God’s truth if you intend the meaning the word implies. This is what offends me – the intent, not the label itself.

Likewise, my previous example would be better stated by saying that it would be like calling Roman Catholics as a group that was against God’s truth.
Assume a human mother gives birth to children. If the mother erred and made mistakes ( as Protestants proclaim) does that make the children not human,
A more important question – if the mother erred and made mistakes, does that mean the children can’t recognize them and correct them in their own lives?
Considering we were here first, we protest nothing and proclaim only Truth.
That claim is specious. The apostolic church simply wasn’t Roman Catholic. Heck, if the numbers from the Great Schism were carried back, one could say that 80% of the apostolic church wasn’t Roman Catholic.
The position of the Forum seems to be “Make 'em prove their assertion”—which Church Militant and I, among others, have done.
So you believe. But others obviously disagree. You’ve convinced none but yourself.
Despite PC Master’s hysteria…
Hysteria? :rotfl:
Ultimately, Protestants will continue to be called Protestants simply because there is no other descriptive label for non-[Roman] Catholic non-[Eastern] Orthodox Christian communities birthed in the various Reformation movements.
I agree – “Protestant” serves as a label for a group. And that’s why I take no offense in it’s use simply as a label. For most who use the label, no bad intentions are present.
Go to Wikipedia and type in “Diet of Speyer”. Obviously you don’t accept anything that Wiki says at face value…
Actually, Wikipedia was the first thing I checked (along with its links). I was hoping for other, more detailed information, specifically involving the use of the label Protestant. Can you provide any for me?

I’ll leave this to the reader. Is this an example of charity? (It’s a rhetorical question, of course. No one need answer.)

I’m hearing you talk about the “reformation” movement…what about the “restoration” movement. Disciples of Christ, Christian Church and the Church of Christ all consider themselves as Christians only. The refer to themselves as the early church restoration movement and thus the Church establish 33AD…

What are you driving at here? I’m afraid I don’t completely follow. Please elaborate.

Wow, there’s more of the patented PC Master blunt speaking. The Straight Talk Express doesn’t run by your house, does it?

Here’s just one thread which proves my point . It was started in direct response to a mod suggestion when somebody repeatedly claimed Catholics aren’t Christians. It demonstrates that “others may disagree”, but they’ll be lying to claim otherwise.

The link function may be found in the toolbar above the text window. Try using it once in awhile, PC.
