What do you do if you miss Mass?

I work every third weekend and have to go to the earliest Mass if I’m going to make it at all. Today, I slept too late and missed Mass. 😊 I’m going to Confession as soon as I can, but my question is does anyone here do anything extra when they miss Mass (for any reason)? Do you spend extra time in prayer, or just call it a loss, go to Confession and move on?

I am definitely going to read through and contemplate today’s readings, say the Rosary and the Our Father and an Act of Contrition. This is in no way to try to mitigate the sin of missing Mass or replace Confession, it’s just something I feel I should do.

Do what you are doing: Follow your heart; hearing how others follow theirs might be interesting in a way, but follow your own.
 
are there later masses in any other parishes nearby that you could still get to?
 
It is nice to read that people are taking Mass seriously.

What I have done: Listen to Mass on the Radio, Watch EWTN mass, Watch Regular TV for a catholic mass, Read the readings and prayers for the mass of that day, go to a weekday mass.

If you honestly forgot mass (I have on a holy day a few years back) then it can’t be a mortal since since you didn’t set out with premeditated intentions to miss mass.

Yeah…I knew I needed to be up early and definitely hit the snooze button and rolled over. :o Thankfully, my wife and son can make it to Mass later in the day, so this one’s just on me. Just another thing to add to the list of ways I’ve prioritized my wants over Jesus’ for Confession this time. I’m working on it, though!
 
You hit the snooze button thinking you were gonna get an extra 10-15 min of extra sleep but not thinking you were gonna miss Mass, correct? Alarm went off later on but you didn’t wake up? I need to get all the facts straight before I can make a binding judgement.😃

I hit the snooze button on the 7:30, 8:00 and 8:30 alarms and woke up at 9. Mass was at 8:30. Pretty sure I’m on the hook for this one.

At any rate (and I know the last post was all in fun), I’m not looking for approval or condemnation. I’m just interested in hearing what sorts of things other people do when/if they miss Mass.

If you slept too late inadvertently do not go to Confession because you have not sinned .

I think of missing Mass as I would think of missing an important appointment, you don’t do it for frivolous reasons or not serious reasons. The way I understood OP’s clarification is that he didn’t sleep in inadvertently as I’d previously thought. If it’s venial or mortal ain’t for me to determine but it’d be best to get this off his chest thru Confession, in the meantime, I’d probably try to catch Sunday Mass on SaltTV or EWTN.
 
Intentionally missing Mass is a sin. I am not sure if your actions were intentional or accidental as I do not know your habits with the snooze button.

For me to avoid the temptation of the snooze button on my alarm clock, I purposely put my clock far from me so I must get out of bed to turn it off. I also have an alarm clock in my bathroom set for a few minutes after my bedroom alarm. If the snooze alarm use is very tempting for you to the point where you miss Mass or may get late for work, then try what I do which works well for me, and I am on time for work & weekly Mass always.

Going back to the OP question. I haven’t missed a Sunday Mass in a long time - not having to work on the weekend helps a lot in that regard! The last time was due to the incrediably bad weather of a few years ago. We did the same as you are suggesting - read through the Mass readings (and the meditation provided in the Magnificat booklet) and had some additional family prayer time.

We did not watch a Mass on TV. I find it difficult to concentrate during normal TV Masses - special things like the Pope’s Christmas Mass are different! Watching Mass on TV does not fulfill the obligation so there is no special virtue in doing it.

I’m hoping to not have to develop any kind of ritual to compensate for missing Sunday Mass, so I haven’t given it any more thought. 😉
