I’m curious, because I don’t physically do much of anything. I clasp my hands and walk back to my pew. I’ve noticed some other people make the Sign of the Cross or genuflect, among other things.

Is there an official recommendation as to what we should do after receiving Holy Communion?

No, I don’t believe the GIRM specifies.

I make the sign of the cross. That’s what most around here do.

sign of the cross, amen. Walk back to pew, kneel, give thanks and praise silently.

Make the sign of the cross, go back to my pew and pray! I thank the Lord for allowing me to recieve him fully in the Eucharist if I have recieved both body and blood. I thank Him for who he is and what he had done for me. Remember Our God is present with us physically for about 10 minutes.

I always did the sign of the cross after receiving from the time I was a child. Last year our priest wrote in our bulletin that it was not appropriate so now I just clasp my hands and say the Animal Christi. I love that prayer!

hit the side door to get to outback before the baptists.
:rotfl::bowdown2:
OMG, that was awesome!

(for the record, that is one of my biggest pet peeves but funny is funny.)

LOL…my parents attend a baptist church, their service lasts almost an hour longer. You’ve got plenty of time, don’t worry. 😃

OP; I’m not sure what the official practise is, but I make the sign of the cross immediately after, and I kneel in the pew to pray and also to give thanks for being able to receive the Lord.

I just get off my knees, walk back to my pew, and kneel down. Nothing special.

I look at the corpus (if there is one), make the sign of the cross, put my hands back together, walk quietly back to my pew and kneel down to pray. I try not to look up from my prayer and notice anyone’s clothing as they walk by.

😊

I also try to tune out the singing as I find it distracting while I thank Jesus for being present in the Eucharist.

Wow, same here.

When I’m at a TLM I make the sign of the cross, as it seems appropriate given that the priest is giving me a mini benediction whereas in the OF I’m simply making an affirmation.

I do the sign of the cross while looking at the tabernacle, then I put my hands back together in a prayerful gesture, go back to my seat and watch silently as others receive grace and forgiveness before me. I try to remember how glorious this moment is in which God’s grace is pouring out in this room, and that Jesus is being lifted up over and over. I also try to sing whatever music we have, if I know the tune well enough.

Why does everything have to be about the OF and the EF?

At both the EF and OF, you have just recived the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus. There is not more or less in either, and any benediction or affirmation or any other liturgical action by any human being pales in comparison to what you have just recieved.

If Jesus is present in both, he deserves your utmost reverence. Either way, Jesus strictly demands your gratitude.

Exactly, which is why I also kneel and receive on the tongue when I’m at the OF. 👍

You’ve just received our Lord, Himself. I go back to my pew, kneel, and talk to Him. That is your own personal time to say whatever is on your mind.
