I usually write in my diary or say a rosary or read a Christian book. I can’t just sit there and meditate since my mind just wanders. Also, it is the only place I can say a whole rosary without getting distracted.

What do others do in adoration?

Angie

From the Book of Common Prayer: “Adoration is the lifting up of the heart and mind to God, asking nothing but to enjoy God’s presence.”

I read the N/T and then meditate on what I have read, then read another passage and meditate. For the last fifteen minutes I don’t read or meditate but try to just talk to the Lord.

I say the rosary, remember to pray for all those who asked or needed prayers, then I just speak to HIM, after all HE waits for me to come spend time with HIM. That time is the most precious because I feel so loved & close to HIM.

I try to follow that ACTS form of prayer, you know with adoration, contrition, thanksgiving, and supplication. Basically I talk to Him in that format for about 20 or more minutes, then I pray the rosary, and lastly I read The Way of Divine Love, where Jesus interacts with St. Josefa. And if I’m too tired to do any of these, I’ll take a nap. Apparently naps are okay as approved by a Saint. It’s like a child sleeping before his father.

What did Our Lord say in the Garden of Gethsemane.

When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. [46] “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

Several things.

I pray a rosary. I read passages in the bible. I talk to God outload if it’s just me and to myself if I’m there with other people.

I also try to pick out a Catholic book to read out of our adoration library. I’ve gone through a lot of different books over the years.

I follow the advie of St Catherine Laboure:

Whenever I go to the chapel, I put myself in the presence of our good Lord, and I say to him, Lord I am here. Tell me what you would have me to do. If he gives me some task, I am content and I thank him. If he gives me nothing, I still thank him since I do not deserve to receive anything more than that. And then, I tell God everything that is in my heart. I tell him about my pains and joys, and then I listen. If you listen, God will also speak to you, for with the good Lord, you have to both speak and listen. God always speaks to you when you approach him plainly and simply.

I would love to be able to do this. However, my minds always wanders at the best of times to my grocery list but more often to resentments I have against those who hurt me.

Is this something that comes naturally to you? Or was it a skill you had to learn and if yes, how did you go about it?

I sit silently, close my eyes, and listen. This is the time to be in God’s presence entirely.

It’s not easy at first, and it’s not something that comes naturally to me. I get very easily distracted and my mind does tend to wander. When I find myself starting to lose focus, I ask our Lord to please help me to focus on Him. In that moment, it helps tremendously.

I pray, sit silently, talk to God (silently or out loud), write prayers, read, write in my journal, pray the rosary, pray novenas, think. I usually stay more than an hour.
