What do you do to Evangelization?

Now, we know that we must preach. We know that around us there is atheism and lack of God’s presence, and scorn for the Catholic Faith.

You cannot go preaching in the corners of the Streets for no one will take you seriously.

But I am sure every one of the persons who is reading does something: praying, defending Catholic points, inviting people to Church, being joyous at being Christians under the Pope, being charitable, showing that our Faith is good.

Now, I would invite whoever wants to put down what is your way to evangelize, what are the ways you feel at ease, what are you good at, what experiences, good or bad, can you share. It would be most interesting for me.

I felt that I was not called to be very active, though I once directed a choir, but it was not a good experience.

Now, I offered to give catechism specially to the high School and university kids and to be marriage mediator. The parish priest did not understand what a marriage mediator was and asked me to put the parish papers in order. Now, I cannot put mine in order, it would be a mess the parish…

And years ago I was shy of defending the Faith for I did not know how. Now, I jump like a tiger, for I am more sure of the arguments. Being here also helps me a lot, though I have been here for a short time…

You most certainly can! The greatest act of preaching or evangilizing is by example, and not necessarily by words (“Preach the gospel always, and use words if necessary!”).

On the train platform each afternoon while awaiting the train taking me home, I pray the Rosary. One day, I did not, and a man came across the platform and asked, “What, no rosary today?” He observed my practice day in and day out for several weeks. It had impacted him. It opened the door for a great discussion on the faith.

On a separate occassion, I took my prayer rope out of my bag on the shuttle to to the train station. A lady asked, “Is that some kind of Rosary”. It led to a discussion on the Jesus Prayer, and I know from her eagerness to talk it sparked an interest.

Finally, another day on the train, I was jotting notes in my Journal on readings from the Gospel of Luke. A passenger leaned across the table and said, “Is that a bible study you’re doing?”…it led to a lengthy discussion on the Gospels.

A contractor at work stopped by my cube on day and seeing my Divine Mercy picture hanging on my cube above my bible and prayer books said, “Yeah, I thought you were a Christian, because you never swear!” Another discussion ensued.

So, evangilization takes place even when we are not aware of it, or overtly preaching.

All glory is God’s!

I have found that people either do not pick up on my “example-preaching” or else they simply think it is either “nice” or quaint.
