What do you do when they come to the door?

One time I was out doing yard work and “I said Sorry do not have the time” I got… “Is life worth it if you do not have time…Make time for God …” just could not get rid of the guy - had to run indoors.

Gwyn, you missed a perfect opportunity! You should’ve said “well I gotta get this done so grab a rake and we’ll talk while we’re working”. 😃
 
I will almost always take the time to evangelize to them. In their zeal to show me their faith, they will open doors of opportunity for me to explain mine. They have been told many untruths about other faiths, especially Catholic. I believe they came to my door for a dose of the truth (even if they believe they are trying to sell me on their faith).

They may be persistent, but with a bit of preparation, you can defend your faith. Once, a JW started on with something about repetition of prayer and it ended up with me teaching them what the rosary really is, not what they were “taught.” Whether they had ever heard the truth about the rosary before that I don’t know, but you got to admit, if in their evangelistic zeal the next time they try to attach the rosary to vain repetition, they will have the true explanation of what the rosary is in their minds, and maybe it will trickle into their hearts as well.

I believe they think they are coming to my door to “sell” me their faith. But I have an abundance, so I am very willing to offer up some of my abundance and plant seeds. Seeds that I most likely will never see with my eyes grow, but hopefully someday (God willing) they will yield fruit.

Now, go get 'em!

What do you do when proselytizers such as JWs or Mormons ring your doorbell? Do you engage them in religious discussions? If I know it’s them, I just don’t open the door. If I open the door by mistake, I’ll politely tell them I’m not interested and bid them good-bye.

I ask them if they would like to come in and discuss the Catechism of the only Church established by Jesus Christ…they usually say no and then we wish each other well…every once in awhile, one of them says yes and because I have studied up on the apologetics books offered at Catholic Answers they leave very frustrated…meanwhile, I have shared with them the Truth, and I have done what a Catholic Christian is supposed to do.

Bless you for your gracious attitude. As a former JW who received many “seeds planted” - I thank you. 🙂
 
i usually speak latin, polish, french… whatever i feel like… when you address anyone in a foreign langauge, they usually just smile and turn away.

of course, i had one JW who spoke spanish, and i had to laugh and tell them i spoke english after they replied in fluent espanol.
 
I actually invite them in (ask my wife to take the kids somewhere for a while…it sometimes gets ugly…) I then explain to them that I am an apologist for the Catholic Church. I read, study, and teach church history, religion, and a bit of philosophy. My goal is to help others return to the faith and become in full communion with God. I then warn them that I have also studied a bit on their faith, and have full intention in attempting to help them see the truth about their faith, and convert to a truly Christ centered religion. By this time, they are usually looking at each other thinking “GOODNESS what did we get into.”

They then ask to talk about the bible…and I often go off on the history of the bible, which typically ends with me showing them that if the Bishops and Pope are capable of being fallible on the issue of faith and morals…then even their bible (which holds all of the books of the new testament, though the wording is way wrong) is possibly wrong.

Then things get interesting…
 
When they are Mormon missionaries I will spend a little time
talking to them. They are young men/women who are far
from home. I will let them know that I am solidly Catholic.

As far as the JW’s, I just tell them that I am a devout Catholic
and that I will pray for them. When I say that, they will leave
without further comment.

That’s precisely what I do! I even throw in a “God bless you” before I close the door! :yup:
 
Ok they all leave with dents in their forheads. You know the old joke (tapping on forhead) “Get off my poarch”😃 …Just kidding. I tell them I am Catholic and that usually fires them up to push some more. I usually just close the door but now I have the Pillar of fire , Pillar of truth books and have decided to hand those to them.
 
When they come to my door,I’m nice to them;after all they are doing their mission,but since Im a stubborn catholic,:rotfl: I always make my point,having in mind to not offend them.
 
I keep copies of Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth hand in a basket by the door, next to my OL Guadalupe shrine, in both English and Spanish (why the JWs and Mormons keep sending Spanish speakers to our neighborhood, an over-55 Winter Texan community, is beyond my understanding). They give me a magazine, I give them a pamphlet and a water bottle and shut the door.

My aunt Cathy used to tell the JWs “I don’t have time to talk right now, I am busy contemplating my navel.”
 
Lilving in an apartment, unless someone buzzes them in, I don’t have ‘unexpected guests.’ As you enter the apartment driveway, there is a sign that says 'No Soliciting’.
 
Missguided souls whether JW, Protestant, Mormon, etc… need to be corrected and put back on the right path. Invite them in and share your Catholic Faith with them. Let them see the truth.

You can order a Book of Mormon on the internet and they’ll come to your door!👍
 
The LDS don’t come since I left their church and formally had my name removed from their rolls and made it very clear that I’m not to be bothered by them again.

The JW’s I usually talk to for a few minutes.

During my Wiccan days, I answered the door openly wearing a pentacle with, “Great! I can’t get the goat I’m sacrificing to stand still. Could you help me with it?”

Needless to say they didn’t.
 
Fortunately, the last couple of apartment complexes had a no solicitation policy. They never came around. The complex I am in now also has secured access so they cannout knock on the door.

I don’t answer the door if I don’t know who is it knocking so that takes care of the problem. 😃
 
When the JW’s visited me recently, I had just read the CA book “Answering JW’s”. They kept changing the subject when I brought up things I had learned in that book. (like their beliefs on hell). I invited them back the follwing week to discuss the Holy Trinity, and I offered them a copy of the book. They never returned! 😃
 
We haven’t been “visited” in years by either groups. I’m not sure if it’s the Marian statue in the yard or the mezzuzzah on the doorframe.

I think our area could use some of those errant Spanish speakers, though puzzleannie. I’ve seen the LDS missionaires roaming around Cicero (a suburb with roughly 80% Latino–mostly ESL or Spanish only) unable to even get directions they could understand. Maybe the LDS demographics team is a bit offkilter.

That is a great idea.

We have crucifixs in every room of the house. I have not had the opportunity to encounter any of them, yet. But my husband has been home when they have called. He has invited them in and they saw the crucifix. They would stay for a few minutes, say they had to go and my husband asked them to come back. They have not been back. I do not understand what the fear is from the crucifix. It is just very disturbing.
