What do you do with a purity ring?

I have recently been thinking about getting a purity ring but I don’t know how I should go about it. Are there certain rules? Is a purity ring just supposed to keep you from having sex or from everything else that comes in a relationship? Also, what finger should it be placed on?
 
A purity ring is not like a chastity belt, which supposedly literally prevented unchaste activities. A purity ring is a reminder to yourself that you will live a chaste life and will not engage in impure activities. Looked at that way, someone could continue to wear a purity ring even after marriage, because all are called to be chaste. All that differs upon marriage is that the couple observes the parameters within which marital relations are performed. If you take that view of a purity ring, then you might want to wear a purity ring on your left ring finger before marriage and your right ring finger upon marriage. You may be able to find a purity ring at your local Catholic or Christian religious supply store, or by searching for “purity rings” on the Internet.
