What do you find most satisfying being catholic or christian?

One of the biggest reasons why other Christian Faiths take us the wrong way is that we identify ourselves as Catholic First. What is your faith are you a Christian? Answer - I am a Catholic - it comes across the wrong way - we should always identify as Christians first then Catholic or simply a Christian Catholic. I have actually heard people say " no I am a Catholic". No wonder they don’t think we are Christians.That s not very helpful or Good for the faith . We are Christians of Catholic faith.
 
I see you guys as christian, but your message as catholic, catholic meaning, of course, universal
 
Knowing that no matter what I or anyone else does there is always hope. There is no unforgivable sin, nothing we can actively while alive that irreversibly separates us from grace. The door to reconciliation is always open, the Father will always welcome his prodigal sons and daughters back with open arms no matter how many times they’ve run away.

Of course this ease of redemption is only possible because of our Redeemer. We christians are fortunate in that we have a Human God, a God who lived in a human body and who was born to a human mother. He knows our suffering because he suffered for all of us - not only being tortured to death but also baring the guilt of every sin mankind has committed. He knows our failings because he has seen them in the people he trusted most and because he was tempted in the desert.

Ah no comment thanks for seeing it correctly. Its our own fault we just assume everyone know what we are talking about.
 
“Catholic” is really different from being just “Christian”.

As a Catholic, I can experience the Real Presence in the Eucharist, have a close relationship with Mary, and also with the saints…and I get the joy of feeling that my church really does go all the way back to Jesus Christ himself and wasn’t partly invented by some guy in Europe.

Wouldn’t trade any of this for the world…
 
Really? I don’t see it like that. Your church appears to have a history of being great at not only explaining itself, but, to its immense credit, being very accepting of scientific advance by willing to shift the interpretation of certain biblical passages from a literal to a figurative interpretation to account for scientific fact. I believe most misunderstandings come from the fact that the church has a lot to say about a lot of aspects of life, and this is a lot of information. I don’t think it does a bad job of explaining itself at all, it’s just that most people don’t take the time to study exactly what you guys believe.
 
To paraphrase Archbishop Fulton Sheen, ‘millions of people dont hate the Catholic Church- they hate what they think is the Catholic Church’
 
Interesting question. So many ways of going with an answer, since “satisfying” can mean so many things.

As many have said, the Mass and Eucharist gives us a lot of satisfaction, as a way of actually, really being with Jesus.

You can approach satisfaction from the sure knowledge that what we believe IS what Christ wanted, not a random interpretation of same.

The satisfaction of knowing we have a great hospital (the Church) to help us in our wounds.

The satisfaction of knowing we are guided by the Spirit, who remains with us ALWAYS, til the end of time.

Many, many more satisfactions… these just scratch the surface.

It’s not just scientific fact though. Bible scholarship continues to advance. I believe there are ~65,000 parts of the bible the are cross referencing other parts. People with a deep understanding of the original languages can still find better interpretations than the ones we have. We still find new archaeological evidence and our understanding of historical context improves also.

Catholic.

That it is the Church Jesus founded, uninterrupted existence until this day.

The Popes being the succession of St. Peter whom Jesus installed himself. Looking at the Pope is like being transported back in time to Mathew 16.

The mass. Nothing compares to the re-enactment of the sacrifice at Calvary and where we can feel, touch and taste Jesus himself.

The Sacraments - tangible administration of graces.

Various forms of prayers, including the saints, where we can share our thought and petitions.

I may miss something but I would not exchange the above for the whole world.

Catholic means universal Christian.
That means the holy Catholic Church is open to ANYONE to learn about and become Catholic
I will refer to myself as Catholic as it is a greater meaning than saying I am Christian
99% of born again Christians I encounter always degrade the holy Catholic Church and faith through IGNORANCE. Not my ignorance, theirs
If modern Christians want to call themselves Christians then they need to educate themselves, instead of ignorantly judging Catholics
 
Being Catholic gives meaning to every day of my life. Nothing is meaningless; there are no coincidences. Everything comes from the hand of God and, if we stay close to him in love, is designed for our good. This includes, of course, our sufferings and the bad things that befall us. Seen in this way, life is joyful because it we are utterly safe in the hands of God.
Also, God is not distant and cold, but close and intimate. The Eucharist allows us to receive him daily in the most intimate way possible. Thus, there’s no fear of death and having to appear before him, since we do so everyday of our lives. It will be the same Jesus who meets us upon death.
No matter how much we screw up, confession gives us a new start. There is great hope, at all times, and we can begin again every day of our lives.
Frankly, I can’t imagine life without these things. To me it would be bleak and despairing. No wonder the scourge of suicide and drug use in on a great rise today.
