What do you guys think of this latch?

This is a silly question for all you lactivists out there. I was reading this article on CNN.com, and I was curious about the picture they chose to post. It’s a pretty good article about the number of women who bf and the reasons the AAP is endorsing bfing.

But I wanted to know what you thought of this latch. Doesn’t it look like the baby is asleep at the breast? I just looked at it and thought the baby didn’t look like he/she was actively nursing, and maybe it didn’t show the right way to latch. Am I being ridiculous?

I think Babe is sound asleep and the nipple is lolling in his mouth–that really is a precious picture.

But no, this wasn’t a good picture if the article was promoting breastfeeding. They should’ve had a more alert, actively nursing baby in the photograph.

Ah, but you try and get a woman willing to be pictured nursing and a co-operative baby in the time you need for the article :yup:.

pictured is precisely, exactly and specificaly the latch that causes sore cracked and bleeding nipples.

Ok, I’m glad I’m not crazy. I started second-guessing myself.

Isn’t it sort of funny that, for an article about why you should breastfeed, they chose a picture that shows you how not to breastfeed?
