Hello. I have a number of rosaries that I use to pray with. I honestly don’t know if they have been blessed. Is it okay to pray the rosary even though it hasn’t been blessed? Do most rosaries sold in Catholic book stores come already blessed? If anyone could comment on this I would appreciate it. Sometimes if I don’t have one handy, I use my fingers to pray the rosary. I suppose that is better than not praying it. What a great prayer! Now that I think about it, my house hasn’t been blessed either. Does everyone have their house blessed? When I was a child and having recurrent nightmares we had my uncle (a Jesuit priest)come and bless my room. I see some people in our parish actually have our priest bless their car. What do you have blessed? What is reasonable to ask a busy pastor to bless? Ishii

It would be a good idea to have your rosaries blessed. THose sold in stores aren’t blssed, as far as I know. Like you though, I sometimes end up prayinfg the rosary with my fingers, if I don’t happen to have one at hand.

You should have your house blessed. Most offices and stores I know are oftentimes blessed, but I don live in a predominantly Catholic country so it’s the usual thing to do. A lot of my friends have their cars blessed to. Other items that have to be blessed are scapulars, crucifixes, religious images.

I had my new car blessed last year, my rosaries, and my statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary - the first statue I’ve ever had.

Oh, and my children, too.😃

I’ve never had my car blessed, but I have a blessed rosary in it at all times. I also have some blessed holy cards, a crucifix, some blessed medals, and holy water.

House blessed–definately yes. Car–probably a good idea, but that one has never occured to me. Sacramentals (like rosaries) also a good idea. All of our rosaries are blessed, as is my scapular. The scapular blessing is part of the enrollment. The one thing I usually don’t have blessed is ‘decorations’–like statues or religious artwork. No reason why not though.

Once an item is commercially sold - money has changed hands, your item is no longer blessed, so if you have been told by the seller that the item was blessed by the Pope or whomever, you will need to get it blessed again.

Lets see I have had rosaries blessed, our house blessed, our cars blessed (esp. the one that the teenager drives), medals/scapulars and Bibles blessed.
Also I have had these all blessed after purchase;)

I also have a question related to the blessing of item. I’ve heard that only religious items can be blessed and not nonreligious items. Is this true? Are there any rules governing what items can be blessed and which ones cannot?

It can’t be true because I just had my brand new Chef’s knife blessed by the Pastor of our Church. It is the most important tool in my work and will be with me for many, many years. I wanted it to be covered in God’s grace!

wow! That is so cool! Nothing like having a reminder of God’s grace while cooking that’s awesome!😃 Thanks for sharing I like that!👍

I was wondering if you should have a holy water bottle blessed. I wasn’t sure if the water would make the container blessed.

A blessing really does two things. First the priest asks for God to bless you every time you use that object. Second it helps to help remind you of your faith because you know that object is blessed. Sometimes blessing an object can help you grow in your faith as well.
What exactly does blessing, for example, a rosary do?

There is a new custom that has grown up in Orthodox and Byzantine tradition Catholic Churches of blessing cars on the feast of the Prophet Elijah (20 July).

I wonder if I can get my rifle and handgun blessed…

**Well, once upon a time the armory of a knight was blessed.

And the Russian Church has a blessing of troops, during which they hold their rifles at port.**

I don’t want to throw this thread off course, but I have several different things which I need to get blessed by a priest – for instance, some medals that I am wearing, my rosary, my Tau cross – but I cannot seem to corner a priest in order to get this done! Today, I waited for the priest after Mass in order to get him to bless at least one thing in my list above, but he remained in conversation with a family for several minutes – therefore, feeling awkward standing around in the narthex, I left having failed yet again.

Hello, Epistomes. I’m not sure how they do it at your church but at the church where I attend, you can leave the items at the church office and the Priest blesses them when he has time. Then the office calls you to pick them up. You might want to try that. I usually get them back the same day. 🙂

My mother had our house blessed when I was a child. Several months ago, I had my car blessed for the first time - A Church was conducting the service. I’d never had it done before but liked the idea. Sometimes, on trips we’d have certain religious items blessed - and there was a time when priests would bless items en masse in Church (I think)…

But I’d like to know myself. Are Rosaries valid - if not blessed? I was just thinking that in Church today. Would love an answer.
God and Our Lady bless you all.

Got my rosary blessed today. Actually I’ve been putting it off for a long time, but today I finally mustered up the nerve to do it.
