This was my reading for yesterday and wondered what you guys make of it. ie if everything was taken away from you, priests and church etc what would you have left of God?

We would have God. God transcends any description. He was existence before He revealed Himself to us, before He became man and walked the earth as our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, before the Church was established.

I suppose we would be like the ancient peoples, like the Native Americans or Aborigines, who knew in their heart that something greater than them created and sustains everything.

Of course, if these things, our priests and church, were taken away from us now, knowing what we now know of God, we would probably be like the underground church in Communist times.

That’s a very good question for Catholics.

In some countries it’s likely that it could happen.

We would still have out Faith. Note that the verse specified that this was “a god that I had made for myself” not the real God. We could still pray, even if it had to be in secret, and God would still hear us. There is no way any outside force could take away our knowledge of and love for God.

That question has two sides to it; first, what would happen if there were no means of learning about God; second, what if those overt signs of the Church were removed after one knew about God. The first is I think answered by the fact that humans have always “created” some form of worship even in the absence of the true God; the second may be answered if Obama is re-elected.

It’s true that they cannot strip you of your thoughts and internal prayers even if they muted you about your faith.

But what about those that hold taking part of communion so dear? It would effect them so much. They might feel lost.
