What do you plan to do during Lent?

Ah gotcha. The two small meals, or collations (from the French for ‘snack’), are there to help us maintain our strength throughout the day. If you’re getting to the point where you feel like you’ll pass out, your collations obviously aren’t helping to maintain your strength.

Just as an example - this morning I had a granola bar. For lunch I’m going to have one of those canned meal replacements. These are definitely small meals, but they get me through the day till supper. And remember, juice doesn’t break the Lenten fast (it does break the Eucharistic fast, though). If you’re feeling faint, grab some milk or juice and offer up some quick prayers for these minor ‘relaxations.’

It’s sad that the importance of prayer and fasting has been downplayed in recent decades - I’m sure you’ll find this to be a time of great grace and spiritual growth if you persevere. God bless!
Thank you so much, Matt! that’s very helpful. God bless you as well.

It was good to feel really hungry and empty by dinner time tonight. My husband and Ihad a favorite lenten meal which our kids cannot abide - canned salmon right out of the can on hot rice. Yum!

I have to say, this is the first time I have actually been able to stick to NOTHING except liquids and those sparsely, until evening. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. My thinking process was a little muddled by 5 p.m. though. I went to the store to pick up a few things and to drop off a prescription…Got home and had forgotten to drop the prescription at the pharmacy!

I am going to try and do this as often as possible throughout Lent. On the days when I stand and pray in front of Planned Parenthood, I may need to go ahead and have one of the permitted snacks, so as not to get too weak to pray. It’s a balancing act. On the days when I have to eat more, I can sacrifice more of my time on the computer (ahem).

Time to get off and go read and pray!

👍

*Go to mass during the week and on Sunday.
*Say the Rosary each night.
*Donate to a charity.
*Do an act of kindness for my parish priest - not sure what yet

Pray the Rosary at 3PM, fast as best I can at my young age.:o
Watch the DVD of " The Passion of The Christ" every Friday of Lent. It’s very hard for me & my bride to hold back the tears on this one.😊 And of course attend The Station of the Cross on Fridays.

Work the Church’s food pantry every Tuesday & Wednesday (in & outside lent).

God bless you all!

I hope to pray a little more and play a little less. I will NOT hate the Duke sports teams quite as much as I usually do. I promise not to swear at them when I go down to the ACC tournament (the womens tourn) next week, at least not as much as I usually do.

We beat them this past Sunday, and it was such a sweet victory !!! Go TERPS !!

I plan to be a bit more kind and loving and forgiving, BUT when it comes to Duke, I know it may be nearly impossible. There’s a reason they’re called ‘blue’ DEVILS… spawn of SATAN comes to mind…

Just a few things I’m planning on doing:
  • Fasting one day per week for my future Spouse
  • Give out a Finger Rosary to a person who I believe needs it every week of Lent
  • Work on some Pride issues (More personal stuff)
  • Write an Affirmation to a friend each week of Lent
  • Give up cursing/swearing (I’ve decreased substantially, so I figure it’s time to kick the habit!)
Let’s pray to the Lord we can all make it through this sacrificial season!

Thank you. I am new at this. Our whole family is coming into the church this Easter. He will receive First Communion then. We’ve talked about Lent, and it’s purpose. The kids are sacrificing up Netflix and sweets. My plan is to try to pray the rosary daily with them, and read more saint stories, in addition to our catechism studies.

I still have a lot of learning to do!
I am so happy for you! Mad congratulations!!! (Texan for the biggest congratulations in the world). When I was teaching First Communion, I found loads of good colouring pictures for the kids on line. Since your a homeschooler though you probably know that. 👍 Saying prays of joy and patience for you and your family.

Aloha Like (that is Lee-kay right?) Thanks for working the food pantry as we know it is much needed. God Bless you and your Bride.

I plan on eating less each day to mortify my appetite and in the process lose some of my excess pounds, be more attentive to my diabetes-stop with the sweets. I am planning on reading from the New Testament each day, reading two or three chapters of the Gospels, starting with Mark. Actually, I plan on doing this through Lent and beyond. I think this covers my resolve.

Well Lent is here and I finally have a final plan for what I plan on doing. This was hard for me to break down and declare what I was going to do, which is why it took so long to make it final. But figure this is not for me or what I want. And after all Jesus has done for us, I figured it is the least I can do…though by reading what others are doing, it makes mine feel somewhat small or perhaps not enough…

No eating in between meals (this is the big one for me. I am always finding something to eat…)

Read a chapter or so of the “New Testament” before bed…as well as a few readings. Try to increase my prayers.

Only listen to Christian music in my car and in my apartment

Not drink as much pop as normal - am not cutting it out completely.

Hopefully this will be enough. Last year I tried to do too much and ended up failing it all. 😦

Wish you all the best of luck with your plans and that you will have a great Lenten season. May this be a time you grow closer to Christ. 🙂

Giving up pop. It’s my one poor daily vice that I’d like to eventually give up for good.

This is my first lent.

No meat on Ash Wednesday was quite difficult as I’m a huge fan of chicken. I don’t want to go too extreme because I don’t want to overwhelm myself the first time. So, here’s my plan.

Read the NT, finish the CCC, pray a rosary every night, attend mass at least twice a week, spend at least an hour per night with the Lord through prayer and scripture reading, and get the supplies to start making thread rosaries to donate to rosaryarmy.com.

Great thread!

What does everyone think about hosting and/or attending birthday parties or other celebrations during Lent? My 7 year old son was invited to a [Catholic] friend’s birthday party on March 3rd.

Also, is it sending the wrong message to my children if were to visit museums, etc. during Lent. (We homeschool, and I’ve been meaning to plan a trip to a science center for nearly two months, but we have yet to go.)

This is our first year of seriously observing Lent.
I think thats fine to go to the birthday party and yes the museum. I imagine they are giving up something for Lent, at that age we use to give up our favorite snack and of course says prayers before bedtime. 🙂

That sounds awesome for a first-timer (even a long-timer) lol! 👍

Durning this lent,I am going to say The Station of the Cross, no meat eating on Every Friday, make sacifices, and give Alms.

Mahalo Ohana, yes that is the pronunciation. Are you from the Islands? I see your screen name “Ohana” is Hawaiian for “family”
Working at the food pantry has really helped me connect more with the Parish & the poor we serve.

God bless your Ohana!

This will blow your mind!!! Take a look at a Traditional Calendar! I counted 40 Fast days! My have we come a long way…😃 So…pick a number…10…20 30…40 fast days that you will keep! but don’t dare miss the Fridays! Seriously isn’t fasting just the beginning? Isn’t Lent something more? I’ve heard it’s like spring cleaning…you know…clean out those dark coroners (cobwebs?) throw out the junk…wash the walls clean! Who among isn’t carrying around some baggage that we’d like to put in the dumpster? (and leave it there). I better stop there…I’m starting to feel guilty!😊 Looking foreward to Easter! 👍

Feel free to join in! There are plenty of us doing the traditional fast - this was one of the worst modifications to take place after Vatican II in my opinion.
