Hi!
I’m sure there’s already been a thread on this topic but I would like to be able to respond and get responses so sorry about this :o

I would like to know your opinions on dating.
Do you think it is ok to “flirt”, go out on dates and so on to “be familiar” with the other gender, to know what you like in a man/woman, including with non-catholics and non-christians?

Now that I’ve written it down it seems obvious to me that yes (?) but I still would like to hear your views 🙂

It’s harder but not impossible. I wouldn’t anyone that wasn’t Christian because I think a mutual fath in Christ is important and I wouldn’t expect to be able to change someone’s outlook but I believe you have to take people as they are and not as you would have them be…it’s the realist in me I guess.

Yes, I married a non Catholic when I met my wife she didn’t hardly go to Church. I just planted the seed of faith and prayer and one day she got curious and went to Church with me and saw that everything we do is scripture based. Been married for 10 years. It is hard but very possible! God Bless!

That’s exaclty what I dream of, someone whom I could share a lot of things about my faith with… unfortunately I don’t know so many… and “waiting” until I’m too old to make a choice and take the first man that comes doesn’t really entice me…
I never am sure what people mean by ‘be familiar’?
Hum maybe know how a man behaves emotionally? 😃 And like I said before get to know what I would like in a man…

Nice, glad to hear that 🙂 Although I am not talking about marriage yet!

I’m very confused to be honest and you have probably guessed it haha 🙂
I’m 18 by the way if it helps “answering” my question 🙂

I would say from personal experience that it’s best not to get romantically involved with non-Catholics. Dating is the process by which two people discern marriage and marriage will not work with an anti-Catholic girl. Let me tell you, it’s easy to get involved with such a girl and very hard to get away.

Most of the people around me are either atheist or not interested in dating 😃 So what am I supposed to do 🤷

LOL! I understand. My point was is that there are many people with many religions. As long as the person doesn’t try to force their religion on you or other people. You can find wonderful personalities in people of different religions. I just so happened to marry one. Just like I said be careful they don’t lead you astray! 🙂

I don’t date so this part is biased.

If you wish to date go ahead. Have fun and be socialable. Be responsibile and intelligent. To me it matters not what faith unless it is widely different. Just don’t have super high expectations and, in my opinion, don’t look for a lifemate. Dating is more for being socialable then looking for that “one”.

Pray! Ask God to guide you to what He wants you to do. Ask Him to bring a good Catholic boy into your life to date.

Its useless to ask others what you should do if you haven’t even started with asking God what you should do.

I would absolutely date a non-Catholic/Christian if it meant they were of excellent moral character among other things. I live in a very Lutheran-majority area of the US, so it’s common.

I came into the faith via my wife (was baptised Protestant but was an atheist), I converted after maybe 9 or so years.

Some really good priests helped as well.

That it’s a broken concept.

Just do things your way as long as it’s compatible with God’s way. Don’t conform to useless schemes. Think what kind of marriage you want and fish accordingly.

I don’t believe in casual dating, just like I don’t believe in having sex before marriage.
So I waited to date until I was old enough to marry, and halfway done college, and I wouldn’t date a guy I couldn’t see myself marrying. And that meant Christian, wanted a family, had his future organized and could support having a wife.
The last thing I wanted was to marry a guy, and we’d have to live in his Mom’s basement… o.O

I dated two men before I met my husband. I made them all jump through all sorts of hoops, because I didn’t want to waste time or emotion on a relationship that had no hope of lasting.

I believe my way was wise, as I’m watching my 26 year old GF’s, date and sleep around, then have their hearts broken and cry to me saying things like: “I wasted 3 years on him!!”
Only date a guy you realistically think you’d marry and who wants to be married. It’s not that complicated, it’s just that people are too impatient to wait.

How does “looking for that one” differ from dating in your opinion?
