What do you think about Protestants?

The idea that God helps us through Mary and the saints is ridiculous to them.

They are free to hold that ridiculous opinion, but they should refrain from expressing it in your presence and save such discussions to have in their own homes.

Well, not technically “always.”
So you were given the opportunity only if you converted to Catholicism?
Again… only Catholics? The Muslims, for instance, don’t have anything to complain about? The Baptists of the American South are never cast in a bad light?
I have not watched every movie/program ever filmed/aired… but I have noticed that almost every segment that depicts a “Christian” as a murderer, lunatic (religious fanatic), holding extreme sexual issues, and even when in league with the occult (illuminati, etc.) it turns out to be a Catholic cleric or a “devote” Catholic. When characters are portrayed as “Catholic” they are depicted having a vacuous definition of the Faith or, in the least, not being able to respond to anything past the “let’s agree to disagree” motto.

I cannot recall watching a movie/program where the Muslim religion has been exploited (vilified)–not saying that there aren’t; could you point one out for me?

As for Jewishness or whatever else, how does depicting a person’s religious/cultural roots relate to the character they are portraying? I mean, some of these constructs seem to just be hammered into the scripts even when it does nothing for the plot.

As for other Christians, the only time I saw anything hitting on the same level of disrespect was that country farce where the inner circle of a local religious body was composed of adulterers, cheats, pretenders, and back-stabbing, hypocrites that would steal Jesus’ sandals and sell them to Peter for a drachma while shouting halleluiah (Praise Yah).

Nowadays, people have stopped being afraid of the Scientologists and their lawyers and more books and programs about them are coming out and very little of this material is friendly to Scientology.

The whole “Book of Mormon” musical, which came from a South Park episode. It basically makes fun of Mormons. LDS church decided to use it as an evangelization tool instead of getting upset by it though.

…are you talkin about the racist, sexist, porno skid that’s a Jesus’ bashing barf that’s been held as a cultural ethos of cool/enlightenment?

I can only say, ‘they are finally catching up to other religious bodies to exploit!’

Nice people on the whole who sadly follow an inferior theology. I’m thinking many will get to heaven . Just closer to 2 star than 5 star accommodation.

If you want real honesty, my personal opinion of non Catholic Christians are that they are misguided and I pray for unity with The Church.

I admittedly don’t watch a lot of TV. Generally speaking, it seems to me that priests who are older and recurring characters tend to come off far better (Father Mulcahy, Father Brown), but younger priests and those who appear for one episode, not so much. Those who are strict and lack mercy can be expected to be in handcuffs or come to some other bad end, but this is generally true of non-Catholic characters, as well. Rule-followers who aren’t gracious and big-hearted, regardless of creed, are automatically disliked by audiences and make convenient bad guys.

PS I have noticed that Muslims are essentially always either terrorists or profligate members of stupendously wealthy oil families. You don’t see many characters who are just suburban everyday Muslims.

I am a faithful watcher… not all programs; but I’m analytical so every experience is an opportunity to study what is being presented/taught to the generations who suck it all in…

The damage is being done; it is effective because it is calculated and guised by humor or superficial “respect.”

…and while it is not new (“tonto vs. que ma sabe”) it does reflect the machinery (hollowood) at work: ‘if you can’t kill God, at least kill His messenger/s.’
