What do you think about psychic children?

I have had stuff with spirits happen a lot in my life.

I remember when I was about nine years old, I was camping with my aunt uncle and cousins. My cousins were off riding bikes, but I wanted to shoot hoops, so I took the basketball to the small basketball court in the middle of a huge feild. Well, I was shooting all “Granny style” and this man suddenly comes up to me, and he tells me how to shoot and shows me, and he showed me how to spin the ball on my finger…and I did that for a moment, and turned around to thank him…and he was gone. Like GONE And we were in the middle of a field, and I was only turned for a second, and he just disapeared. I saw him again at the general store at the campground and I dragged my cousin over to say hi…and he was gone again. Just gone. To this day, I still can spin the basketball on my finger.

Ever since my grandmother died in 2002, I sometimes smell her perfume out of the blue, accompanied by a chill. At like the most random times. And her perfume is really distinctive, so it’s not like I have a bunch of people in my house that have that perfume.

This past summer, I was in my bathroom and was washing my hands and I was the only one home. I heard really loud footsteps like someone was wearing heavy boots going through my kitchen and then my back door opened and slammed shut. I freaked out and ran out and I was the only one there.

That’s just a few of things that have happend around here. Lights have gone on and off by themselves, the thermostat would go up and down on its own, keys and stuff have gone missing and would turn up in very odd places, doors have opened and shut by themselves (with windows shut and no draft) One time apparantly when my sisters and I were two, my sister was sitting on the floor rolling the ball by herself, and the ball would roll back by itself to her. She was giggling and smiling and rolling it, it would stop and roll back. The way we see it, it’s never threatened us, and we have lived here my entire life and it’s never been threatening, so it’s okay.

I feel like I need to post an antedote to the moving toys stories. Those are just tough to take.

When I was pregnant with a particular child more than 10 years ago, my mom was at Builder Square when a worker named “Jerome” said to her, “everything will be all right. the operation went fine and you won’t have any more trouble with it.”

my mom had just had emergency open heart surgery. she had almost died. she was wearing a coat and scarf and no scar was showing so she was amazed by this revelation.

my mom spoke to him for a while. he said he sometimes saw stuff. he told my mom, 'your daughter’s baby will, too. but your daughter will know how to deal with her special child."

my mother called me in a frantic spasm. my whole extended family was in a buzz. this was entirely unwelcome information to contend with the last 8 weeks of the sickest pregnancy i ever had. (I’ve written of that pregnancy before. I was a terribly sick, but it was a very Communion-with-God pregnancy. I’d just had a deep conversion to obedience. very moving time. the news from Jerome seemed very out of place. we prayed.)

when said child was born two months later, a most amazing thing happened for several months. our parish church was just across the street so by the time she was a week old, she’d been to sunday mass and a few weekday masses too. my husband would lie her on her back, face up on his lap. Baby would open her eyes wide and look waaaay up over his head and laugh.

and laugh. and laugh out loud joyfully. she was doing this as early as a week old.

during the consecration, she would smile and giggle and coo with the prettiest voice.

every single Mass, the old ladies would gasp. we’d hear them whispering, “i told you! look she’s doing it again.”

my blind friend told me she got used to waiting to hear the baby laugh during mass. her kid would say, “she’s doing it again, ma. her eyes are open and she’s smiling and looking waaay up to the ceiling.”

my husband would lay her in his lap at home, but no such response. as she got a little bigger to be held on his shoulder, she would still look waaay up and laugh. it was a contagious laugh. it made other people giggle too.

bythe time she was about 6 or 7 months, the window to peek into heaven had been closed and the curtain drawn.

i’ve asked her if she ever gets special feelings about stuff. she says no. i leave it alone. she is very emotionally intuitive, though.

here’s another story:

my mom tells of an apartment where I was a newborn baby in the Bronx. attached to my parent’s bedroom there was a screened-in porch that had been converted to all-season room. my parents headboard was at the wall of that porch, the door to the porch just past their night table. my newborn crib was just on the other side of the wall. so I was right inside the porch-- only a few steps away from their bed.

my mom and dad were sleeping. my dad said, 'check the baby! get up and check the baby!!" my mom bolted up in bed to see my dad sleeping soundly. all of a sudden, my dad bolted upright and they looked at each other.

my mom threw off the blankets and ran into the little porch where i was sleeping in my crib. except i wasn’t. my head had somehow gotten wrapped tight in my banket. it was twisted around my head. when my mom freed me, i gasped for air.

my mother and dad were amazed. they swore my guardian angel had woken them up.

I have other guardian angel stories-- like the time my kid was falling out of the fast moving car only to be **thrown back ** into my lap and the door slammed behind him. Even though I was driving, I saw the whole thing-- even the part where he was falling out of the car. I was so absolutely astonished and shook up and AWARE that something amazing had just happened, I had to pullt he car over to cry. (that was almost 30 years ago, folks,. car seats and seatbelts weren’t mandatory. )

by the time that particular kid was 2 and a half, I’d named his guardian angel Ernest because that angel was working in earnest. He still is working in earnest. that kid works in a supermax federal prison.

But that’s all for tonight.

I would put in a word of caution here. When I was 4 or 5 I saw something that sent me down a dark path for many years. I’m not saying I became involved in the occult or anything but I read everything about it I could get my hands on. What I read convinced me such things should be left alone. I’m more inclined to believe ghosts are demons pretending to be ghosts to lead us away from God. This is just my humble opinion. I do believe in praying for the protection of angels and and intercession from Saints but always with a view of bring myself closer to GOD.👍

I had a close friend who claimed to be agnostic. She would have been 44 on the day she was buried. When nearing her death she became a believer and would love the Christmas story read to her.
She was never married and had one nephew to whom she was very close. They were “buds” as she would say. He hated to go to bed at night. After my friend died he would ask right after supper if he could go to bed. His parents, thinking this very strange, asked him after several nights of this why he suddenly wanted to go to bed right after supper. He was 7. He told them “because Aunt _______
always comes and reads to me.” They asked what she was wearing and he said a long white dress with gold on it. After a time he didn’t go to bed early any more. When asked why he answered, “because Aunt ______ doesn’t come anymore.” Having worked with Hospice for over 20 years I don’t doubt anything that I hear relatives relate after someone dies.

My sister’s next-door-neighbor had a daughter who was born with heart and long defects. She was always short-of-breath, and ate with a feeding tube. One day, while out playing in the yard (she was only 3) she stopped breathing and was clinically dead for several minutes before the rescue squad came and resusitated her. She spent much time in the hospital, awaiting a heart and lung transplant.

This family was not religious, and celebrated Christmas only as a secular holiday. A year after the event above, mom and little girl were out Christmas shopping. They saw a nativity set at the store, and the little girl asked if they could get one. Her mom was amazed. “Do you know what that is?” she asked her daughter. She had never owned a nativity set. “That’s baby Jesus,” little girl replied. Her mom was curious… “how do you know that’s baby Jesus?” The little girl’s reply was “Jesus came and gave me a hug out on the lawn that day.” (the day of the event). The family was so moved that they began going to Church again. Shortly after, their little one went to meet Jesus again for good.

I know you hear these stories, and you wonder if they’re really true. This one is… my sister was best friends with the mom.

Psychic children? Maybe not “psychic”, but definitely, I think children are “other aware” than adults.

Didn’t Jesus say “Be as a child?” (I’m not sure of the exact passage…)

Why would this be?

I often have very strange coincidences that totally freak me out (and others). Just today, I called the jeweler to see if our wedding rings were ready. He told me that my ring had not come in, and would hang up with me and call the company for an update. The jeweler called me back 10 min later saying that just as he hung up the phone with me, the FedEx guy walked in with - you guessed it - my ring.

I also see things I have NO KNOWLEDGE of. For example, my dad’s diswasher broke. No idea where from - but the thought/image popped into my head that the ribbon cable connection came loose. (I’ve NEVER looked inside the “guts” of a dishwasher, and had NO IDEA they would contain said ribbon cable.) Guess what was wrong with the dishwasher? Loose ribbon cable connection.

Other things as well…like passing out for no apparent reason at the same time my cousin was killed in a tragic accident.

I don’t know why things are this way. Who can say for sure? All we can do is trust in God.

PS - I used to (a LONG time ago - almost 20 years) read tarot cards - rather accurately, and also do pendulum dowsing. Did a dowsing demonstration for a class in college and completely freaked out a lecture hall full of students. One Sunday, I heard a sermon condemning these practices, and I threw everything out that afternoon. I have not “dabbled” in these things since. So glad I was set straight. I still, however, have precognizant dreams and images (like the ribbon cable thing) that I can’t control/prevent.

Oh, totally. I have friends whose children are all that way. It’s totally obvious, you only have to observe them for a little while, and then it’s plain as day. There’s no doubt in my mind at all.

Oh, sorry, “psychic”? I thought you said “psycho”…:doh2:

As I said before, in being a volunteer for hospice I could tell enough stories about unexplainable events told to me to fill a book. I truly believe there is a connection (when God allows it) between this world and the next. One day when my mom was dusting she clearly heard the voice of a friend who had recently died say, “Marie, pray for me.” She immediately dropped everything and went to the priest. He told her to listen to the voice and do as she asked. He told her that one time when he was dressing for the mass he kept getting the thought “say the mass for your father.” He kept fighting it because the mass was to be for someone else that day. The thought became so over powering that he finally gave in and said the mass for his father. When he got back to the rectory there was a message waiting for him that his father had died that morning.
