Recently I was on a Pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes. One day we were in Fatima but I had been unwell and had not left my hotel room since we arrived as I was suffering quite badly and could hardly stand up. I was anxious that we were to be leaving the following morning and I had not even left the room, so I set about going to the Shrine on my own (everyone else was already out for the day). When I stepped outside the hotel there was a wonderful smell like nothing I have ever smelled before, it was beautiful and I looked around for the floweres or trees to see where it came from, but there were none. I felt a lift and seemed to have more energy from the smell. I went first in search of water and found my friends arriving there just at the same time as I. I was still very weak but determined to go to the Shrine with my bottle of water. I arrived at the Shrine – what an awesome place, tears flowed down my cheeks, it was wonderful, what a beautiful place and the fragrance. I then completed a small trip to Aljustrel on the coach and the smell left me, then I returned to the hotel exhausted and slept until the following morning when I felt refreshed and got up for Mass, I was full of energy and said to my friend, “What is that wonderful smell?”, but she smelled nothing, noone did. The smell carried me once again down to the Shrine and we had mass in a beautiful little chapel, then breakfast and on the coach to Lourdes. I will never forget that smell. I can find no information about it anywhere. But I did read something the other day about Padre Pio and his fragrance and how some saints have this beautiful aroma about them. I wonder if someone came to help me that day…What do you think?

Hi,

I have no doubt that it was Our Lord Himself who through His mother welcomed you and gave you the strength you could find nowhere else. Allow that gift to draw you closer to Him. It was a gift that was tailored especially for you to help you realize that your cross is a particular one that He has chosen for you. It is your special link with Him through His mother.
