The history reported here is basically true.

I myself know a couple of refugees from them who are now in canonical Orthodox monasteries.

I find their icons to be a bit cartoony in style.

However, remember the blessing of a REAL priest can revoke all the spells they themselves may have done to their products.

“Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.”

Yeah, the info in that article is reliable from my understanding of that whole situation. I wouldn’t touch one of those with a ten foot pole. Cluny is right, the blessing of a priest is more than enough to take care of any evil nasties associated with them. 😉 I personally would still be uncomfortable praying in front of one.

Check this place out next time:

They have tons of great canonical icons you wouldn’t have to worry about. There’s other good sites too, that one is just my personal favorite, and the quality of their products is superb. 👍

I quite agree with your assesment of St. Isaac’s products, trophybearer.

Oh great, because before reading that article, I just ordered 3 new ones. Would like putting holy water on them help?

I would suggest that if any of the icons give subtle indications that are against Catholic teachings or is potentially spiritually harmful to you, return them. If the items are neutral, then that is up to you. But if they are not, return them and use the returned money to go to another store.

Remember when Peter was spreading the Good News and an oracle followed him saying “Listen to this man, for he speaks a truth” (paraprashed form memory) ? Well Peter turned around and drove the oracle away. The reason is the article “a” instead of “the”. I’m not sure how this would work in the Greek, but I trust the NAB to be accurate. The changing of the article to signify that while this is a truth there are other truths is a subtle sabotage.

If the icons you got can do that, by changing the relationship between us and God or other nefarious ideas, do not use them. I do not doubt a priest’s blessing. The blessing, as far as I know, does not change the image and the image will be what you are looking at physically.

Here’s my question, though. After reading these threads and this article, I checked my two icons, and on the back they say they are from skete. But I got them from Monastery Icons, so I guess they must have obtained them from skete. So…are they damaged by “spells”–are they ok to use?? One is the Trinity icon, and the other is the beautiful one with Jesus on the fifth day of creation.🤷

My two cents worth, I agree with what the other posted have stated that a priests blessing will take care of any evil or spells but if there is something in some of the images that just doesn`t ring true I would personally burn those particular ones.
