Hi There!

I’m a permanent deacon serving at the archdiocese of Baltimore. After much
refection I have felt called to perform hospital ministry, specially to Hispanic patients
(I’m fluent in Spanish and there is currently a great need for Spanish speaking ministers
in our archdiocese). As part of the process to be accepted as a volunteer I was required
to take a blood test to review my vaccination history. The test showed that I lack the
Measles vaccination. Which means I will have to be vaccinated as an adult against this
disease if I want to work at the Hospital as a volunteer. After much research I found out
that there is no moral alternative to this vaccine. Here is my quandary. Since I can get
involved in other ministries that do not require me to have this vaccination (meaning I
am not obligated to perform hospital ministry, although I really feel called to this), is
it morally acceptable for me to be vaccinated against this disease knowing that its
production involves the cells of aborted human beings? Is there an alternative vaccine I
have not found and that it is moral acceptable?

I don’t know where you obtained your information on the source of the vaccine. Please advise, so I can check into it further.
