I think chiropractic is a pseudoscience. Like homeopathy, it doesn’t seem to be backed up with any scientific evidence. I don’t think occupuncture is of any use either. I say stick with western, science based meds.

My grandparents often use a lot of herbs to cure certain ailments. I don’t think there is nothing wrong with that. Doctors study the whole human physiology, Chiropractors study the alignment of human bones which is only needed in their practice. Nothing wrong with that. I myself prefer to use herbs as a form of medicine before I would consider using synthetic medications which most Western Doctors prescribe. Also Western Doctors are quick to give you antidepressant and other antipsychotic medications for whatever you have.

I think the best thing you can do for yourself is routine massage therapy. It relieves muscle tension, thus relieving spinal pain. I’ve went to a chiropractor only a few times and that was after childbirth, from being in the same position for months on end holding a newborn, nursing, etc … and have been told that because I do keep my muscles so limbered up from massage therapy, it was much easier for my chiropractor to work on me.

Exercise is important as well. Keeping back muscles from getting weak. I do not do this like I should.

I’ve never got into homeopathy, never really educated myself on it, nor acupuncture, which I have heard works well. I’m just not into dishing a lot of money out on something I’m unsure of. Guess that if I knew someone personally who has received relief from this procedure, I would consider.

**OUr chiropractor didn’t focus on bones. He focused on the nerve endings that stem off of your spine, when one of those is ‘out of line’ (a subluxation) then it’s sending the wrong signals to your brain and your immune system cannot perform properly/completely. He taught us so much that we never knew. I believe in it, fully. My daughter had strept throat at the age of 2 years old about 8 times in a 5-6 month time span. She was on one antibiotic after the other (I am not giving medical advice, just sharing my personal experience w/ chiro) and the doc wanted her tonsils removed. 😦 I then decided to try the chiro after having gone to an ENT (who actually said her tonsils weren’t enlarged in any way and should be left alone). Let’s put it like this, after going there, she NEVER again had strept throat, she is now 6.5 years old and still strept free all this time. Another story is my DS who is almost 4. he suffered from ear infections, well chiro took care of that too, no more of those for him.

Like I said, this isn’t med advice, just my positive exper. w/ a chiro (he moved to another state to be by his family so we are now w/out a chiropractor :o). Now if you talk to my mom on the otherhand, well, she thinks it’s voodoo stuff. 😊🤷**

DJgang, routine massage therapy just sounds so heavenly!!! I can only dream of having that some day. 😉

This is something I’ve researched quite a bit, as well as experienced first-hand. In fact, I have been cured of a serious illness through holistic healing. I was told—by WESTERN DOCTORS—that I needed a liver transplant. After changing my diet drastically and going through a series of treatments which required no pharmaceutical drugs of any kind, I no longer need a transplant. I feel remarkably better after being purged of so many drugs, which were, in fact, making me sicker.
I also go to a chiropractor for the alignment of my spine, which positively affects all the areas of my body. There is no “voodoo” involved with this!
Western doctors, for all their benefits, can only think inside a certain frame of reference: drugs and surgery…nothing else. They do not study the way our bodies were created by God to behave in a way according to His purposes. Spirituality certainly plays a big part in healing, and I continue to rely on my Catholic faith. I would be interested, however, to know what the Church teaches on alternative healing practices, as long as they do not lead us away from Catholic teaching.

Come to think of it, as a small child I had an excellent experience with a chiro (I totally forgot) …

My parents had a close friend that was a chiro and we went to church with his family as well. I was very sick with a sinus infection and you know, head stuff … he adjusted me and it went away.

Praise God! I watch my very own parents sometimes take this medicine to help the symptoms of what this other medicine is doing, it’s vicious … a vicious cycle. Scary, actually when you start to think about it. Can’t help but wonder if the drugs don’t cause more problems than help.

I have friends who swear by chiropracty and homeopathy.

Doesn’t work for me, in fact messed me up fairly bad the one time I was pushed into trying it for pain relief.

I studided a course in college about homeopathy but didn’t think much of it until I tried a chiropractorr myself. I was desperate to find some help. My back was killing me for 2 months, I couldn’t bed, sit straight, lay down, I could barely walk or stand. It was severe pain. I went to see a chiropractor as a last resort and he was the only one to be able to fix my back. I had gone to physical therapy, to my doctor, tried meds, nothing helped.

This chiro did the same as mamacita’s. He focused on the nerves and hey, it turns out he was right. i switched to a new dr and he discovered I had nerve damage (he called it occiptial neuralgia) on my neck and nobody had noticed that I had mild scoliosis. Thanks to my chiro, I am pain free. My neck bothers me twice a yr, so when that happens, I go back to him and voila! Pain is gone.

Chiropractic has worked wonders for my family. I fully believe in it, and there are lots of scientific studies to prove its effectiveness. Herbs also, lots of studies done, and many western synthetic medicines are the chemical compounds found in plants that are synthesized in a lab.

Not that I don’t believe in science, I have an advanced degree in molecular biology 😃 But western medicine does not have all the answers. I sometimes think that MD’s can be very dangerous, because some think that they have all the answers. When you think you have all the answers you stop asking questions, and end up missing so many things. I almost always use herbs before drugs.

we use it all, but the basis of our success is diet.

with our ten kids (age 28 through 2 and a half) i’ve filled only one prescription for antibiotics in more than 15 years. my doc doesn’t prescribe them (except for that one) and we don’t use them.

we combat everything with alternative meds.

**One more story I need to share:

I was at a b-day party for my g-ma a few weeks ago and my sis in law and I were talking about chiropractors in our area. My aunt overheard us and starting joining in the conversation. She said that her granddaughtter (my cousin’s daughter) had had strept throat a ton of times in a year, and went thru so many meds. The story she told was just like mine w/ my DD, my cousin (who I never hear from and lives in a different state than we do) took her DD to a chiro and voila she has been strept free ever since as well. Just crazy how it was the same story that I had happen and we didn’t even discuss this!!! Crazy, crazy, crazy!!! 😃

Also, when one of my DS’s was born we took him at 5 days old to get ‘adjusted’ (the trauma of delivery can really mess w/ the spine). So to make a long story short, he went several times to get everything aligned just right and when he went for his pediatric check up at 3 months, the doc there (who didn’t know I was taking him to a chiro) said “wow, his nervous system is workign wonderfully, I can tell by how he’s positioning one hand up by his head and the other down at his side. That’s remarkable!” I think it was from having been adjusted, but we kept that our little secret. 😉

Is it for everyone? Well that I do not know. But I do think that so many people out there could benefit from chiropractic and don’t even realize it. It’s amazing to me how docs are so fast to prescribe meds for this and that and the other thing. :(**
