What do you think of TBN?

TBN will air any show that pays them a fee.

Movies are shown when the time slot hasn’t been sold. Because if there was a paying customer out there for that time slot you can be sure you wouldn’t be watching movies.

At one point Mother Angelica even appeared on TBN. Then they had some anti-Catholics on and that was all she wrote. 😃

Made Mother very unhappy.

Next thing you know, EWTN. YAY 👍

I think TBN aired The Hour of Power program by the Crystal Cathedral in California, which was a Reformed Church in America. They also air preaching by Dr. David Jeremiah, who is Baptist I think.
Uh huh. And TBN (or Daystar, I can barely tell them apart) has/had Dr. Charles Stanley (Baptist), Jack Hayford (Foursquare) and Brian Houston (AoG). I think they try to make it not more than 90% or so WoF, so they can claim to be Christian networks and not just WoF networks.

Could be. But for whatever reason, they’re still 90% or so WoF. If the reason is that WoF is who has the money to pay them, that’s kind of sad too. But both networks are run by WoF people, and it’s hard for me to believe that doesn’t have something to do with it. Maybe if I become a billionaire someday, I’ll test that out and see if they’ll let me sponsor a non-WoF Christian show or two or three.

I used to watch it all the time when I was a protestant-non denomonational. I don’t think I really believed what they were preaching/saying though…

But remember these people???

Benny Hinn

Paul and Jan Crouch

Myles Monroe

Rod Parsley

Casey Treat

Marylyn Hickey

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland

Roberts Lairdon

Kenneth Hagin/Rhema

Creflo and Taffy Dollar

Charles Capps

John Hagge

Rod Parsley

Leroy Thompson

TD Jakes

David Jeremiah

Joel Osteen

etc etc etc…

Sorry about the long list, but feel free to comment on any of them…

Thanks…
I like David Jeremiah. Of course I don’t agree with him on everything. The rest of the people I would stay away from.

There is one show on TBN that I really like: Drive Through History. It’s done by the Focus on the family people but it deals with Bible and church history. It seems aimed at high school aged people but I’m 61 and I learn new stuff from it all the time. 😃

The very last time I ever watched TBN, even in passing, was after a very close friend of mine died and Kenny Copeland was on there saying that you can stop bad things from happening to you if you quote the word of God at them. There is still a dint in the wall from the book I had in my hand when he opened his yap to say that jazz.

Could someone explain the Word of Faith doctrine?

I don’t like the whole “give us your money and God will make yu rich and healthy and if you don’t you are being disobedient to God” stuff put out by some of those people. I don’t think they need private jets to spread the gospel. I was turned off by this long ago by Oral Roberts, I think it was, who said if he didn’t get a lot of money God was going to kill him. Somebody correct me if I’m maligning the wrong person. Its that kind of stuff that sent me looking into to Catholic Church so I guess it has it purpose.

I do enjoy the movies. And I agree with the person who said the only reason they are on is unsold airtime.

I can’t stop laughing at your post, this made my day! 😃

It is name it/claim it and the list from OP are it’s biggest promotors. I had a booklet by Kenneth Hagin once titled “How to write your ticket with God”. The late Oral Roberts was one of its earlier proponents. Yes, it was in the mid 80’s when he siad God was going to take him if he didn’t raise I think a million dollars. That was the start of the scandals in the 80’s with a bunch of them with the PTL and the Bakkers being the biggest blow out. Before becoming Catholic, I went to a WoF type church with the pastor from ORU and the assistant from Rhema Bible college. Trust me, stay away from all of that stuff, it is deadly to one’s faith even while promoting that you are to have faith. Joyce Meyers and Joel Osteen are the latest versions of this type of thing. God becomes a giant candy machine and all you need is to have “faith” or put in the right coins and you can get what you want from God. The problem is that God is our loving father not a giant candy machine. If you didn’t get what you wanted from God then it was your fault because you didn’t have “real” faith or you somehow doubted and that doubted negated your prayer request or you truely didn’t get the coins right. Then you go down the road of self-blame and doubt and actually become afraid to pray for anything because of fear that you might have fear and doubt and not perfect faith and you become very screwed up inside.

I used to watch The Donut Man on TBN, Rob Evans is really cool:thumbsup:

One of the give me your dollars because I want to the live the good life proponents that I really can’t stand is Mike Murdock.

I don’t think he can go five minutes without talking about the seed. Send your seed of $300, $500, $1000. It’s all about money.

Makes me sick.

What’s wrong with T.D. jakes? He’s done alot for the black community.
