What do you think of the God character on Twitter?

i don’t care what your politics are

the “twitter god character” is portrayed far far from respectfully

Here’s another one which I like.

“Stop praying. I’m clearly not listening.”

That could very well be the case. I haven’t seen his posts so I can’t comment.

But from what people say he seems slightly disrespectful.

Oh well I’m sure many people laughed but acted differently when being asked about it.

think a Twitter handle for God could be hilarious if done respectfully. The problem is, everyone’s view on how to portray God respectfully is different.
I agree. Just a shame he goes overboard. Think it shows the value of lateral thinking when we look at our faith.

I am going off of what you are posting of this character.

The good work of redemption, the work of Christ, etc., etc.
Plus he’s clearly not saying that.

And then this thing about not listening. He’s saying God doesn’t listen to prayers (clearly no less), but this simply is not true.

God is caring, not some absentee Father.

I don’t spend time on Twitter, so I’m only piecing together what I imagine you must be talking about: some random guy created a Twitter account as “God” and then tweets off-color jokes and comments of his own choosing. Is that about right?

When it comes to writing, it is notoriously difficult to put words in God’s mouth. Most Christian writers avoid it. Probably the only one I can think of who handled it fairly well was C.S. Lewis in the Chronicles of Narnia. And that only worked because it was through “Aslan”.

We already have the words that God spoke, and the Word that God spoke. It’s in the Bible. Any words of God outside of the Bible will inevitably be irreverent, cheesy, or both. And they will also inevitably tell us far more about the attitude of the writer than the attitude of God.

But since fools walk where angels fear to tread, you get guys like this opening Twitter accounts. If it’s difficult for Christians to put words into God’s mouth, it’s going to be pretty well impossible for non-Christians.

If you’re looking for religious humor, go to Eye of the Tiber or Babylon Bee. Some guy pretending he is speaking for God? No thanks. Not interested. I’ll crack open the Bible and read what God actually said instead.

What about George Burns in the movie Oh God? That was pretty funny I think.
