What do you think of this gift for my RCIA sponsor? He is my wife’s uncle and I chose him for his faith and sense of family. I was not sure what to get, but a blessed rosary in his name seemed like a good idea. What do you think? God Bless

I’ve always been leery of web sites that sell items “blessed after you buy”.

My suggestion, find a nice rosary at a local Catholic store, or from an online resource (www.ewtn.com, www.totallycatholic.com are a couple that come to mind).

After Easter Vigil, your Priest will likely have a blessing for all the items that have been bought as gifts, and the Rosary can be blessed then.

I want to get something meaningfull, and I find it hard to find anything for men. I appreciate any suggestions.

I think it’s an awesome gift. While I was still Protestant, my SIL went to Rome and brought back Rosaries for all of us blessed by JPII. At the time, I thought, “well that’s nice–I’ll never use it though”. But now it is my most treasured possession.

That’s because we can’t sell things that have been blessed. Or we shouldn’t sell things that have been blessed.

I don’t have the documentation, I would have to look for it. But I know that at the store at my parish, I have to sell something before it is blessed.

It has something to do with selling blessings.

I agree that he probably has a blessed roasary that is special to him.

If it were me, I’d like a good book … maybe one on the life of a Saint? Or I’d like you to take me out for dinner? Or have me to your house for dinner? Mostly what I’d LOVE is to witness you living out your faith. Honestly, that would be gift enough for me!

Yesterday at mass, our Priest had the RCIA candidates stand up. I swear, I get goosebumps just thinking about the wonderful journey you guys are making!!! It won’t be long now… God bless these final weeks!!! :gopray2:

There you go, mkipp, the perfect suggestion. Invite yellowbird over for dinner. That’ll take care of it.😃

Do any of you have suggestions where I can get a Catholic Prayer Book and have it personalized?

There is a page on the inside of that particular book I mentioned where it says something like “Presented to_______on this day_______by________”

We just normally fill it our ourselves and give it to whomever we’re buying it for. If you wanted to snazzy that up a little, maybe find someone (or you may know someone) who does calligraphy. That might be a nice touch?

I also know that some folks buy their sponsors a nice bottle of wine (assuming he enjoys a good glass of wine from time to time).

Thank You all for your help. It is hard to imagine that I will be home soon.

Long journey isn’t it? But the rewards at the end couldn’t be greater.

Welcome home and God bless!

My friend who is going through RCIA right now just asked me this question. I suggested having a mass said for the sponsor. You can get a card from where you are having the mass said for them to give to your sponsor. My friend really liked this idea. You might be able to have this done at your church.
