What do you use for your Scriptures ?

I own a lot of Bibles: Douay-Rheims, Confraternity, RSV w/Apocrypha, RSV-CE, NJB, KJV, KJV w/Apocrypha, ESV, NEB, NASB, NKJV, NAB.

I do too…I’ve become kind of a “collector”…I have the Douay-Rheims an old Catholic friend of mine left me when she died…I have the companion volume of “Lives of the Saints”.

I have the RSV-CE, New American Bible, Jerusalem Bible, New Living Translation, Living Bible, KJV, New American Standard, NIV, Amplified Bible, Joseph Smith Translation, Phillips New Testament, Moffat Bible, New World Translation, NIV Greek Interlinear, Greek New Testament and my most recent volume “Pre-Nicene New Testament”, it has all known ‘formative’ texts circulated in those first few centuries as scripture among the People called Christians before there was a set canon.

Oh, I am sorry, the King James Version has the word “alone” added to it inorder to support Martin Luther’s Theory of Soal fide.
You do know that right?

As a matter of fact, it doesn’t–at least the 1611 original and 1769 revision (the last official one).

The NAB, the Navarre Bible, the KJV, the New Living Translation and the Douey-Rheims. I like to compare translations.

I only “own” an NAB and an RSV-CE. But I am constantly referencing the free sources online of NIV, KJV, D-R, etc… I use BibleGateway a lot. And I often will search multiple translations at the same time for comparison purposes (using sites like scripturetext.com).

In my Master’s program at a Catholic University, the professor encouraged us to compare different translations to best cover what is offered from Bibles that are dynamic equivalence and formal correspondence translations.

I own a lot of Bibles…KJV, Jerusalem Bible, NRSV, NIV, NKJV, NAS, NAB, and my personal favorite…“Die Bibel oder die ganze Heilige Schrift des Alten und Neuen Testaments” (Martin Luther’s version). It’s dated from 1912 printed in German and somehow my grandparents had it lying around, which is odd considering we’re not German and we’re not Lutheran. lol how often are you going to find a Bible printed in another language that your family doesn’t speak that’s almost 100 years old in good condition???

Does anybody in your family know the story of how your grandparents acquired that Bible? That is a treasure to have!
