I’m a convert “stripe”…

Actually I’m in the RCIA program and am converting from Pentecostalism… You could say that after I become Catholic I will be a Charismatic Catholic.

As I told the deacon of our parish and Newman Center, “You can take the man out of the Pentecostal church, but you can’t take the Pentecostal out of the man…”😃

As of now, the meaning of being Catholic, to me, is to learn to love God with all that I am and to honor Our Lady so that I may learn of Her Son through Her Immaculate Heart.

As I continue my journey, I hope to learn to indulge myself within my Catholic faith and to learn to love myself and others as God loves us all… and to cling to the Blessed Mother and Her Son for all things and to St. Michael to be my Protector and Patron throughout my lifetime…

I desire to learn the fullness of the Blessed Eucharistic Body of Christ and to become one with Him and His Church and to one day be able to teach others the fullness of the Truth within the Catholic Church and become a “Spirit-led prayer warrior” that I might fulfill the plan that God has for me here on Earth in this present life…

Also, before I forget…

I would also like to help reform the Deaf Community within the Catholic Church and to help more Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing understand the Church and Her teachings more deeply.

thank you for your reply thiekei.
i have a question or two for you. are you saying that the deaf community is less catechized than the average catholic? would this be because they miss out on hearing the word at mass? what are your ideas for reform?

I’m not saying either…

There’s a reformation within the Hearing community and in places where there’s not many who understand sign language communication… it would be nice to have a reformation for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing that we may progress in our faith along with the Hearing community.

Also, since sign language has a different grammatical structure and word meaning than plain English, sometimes the understanding of Mass can be “mistranslated” by using the English sign instead of signing by meaning…

My ideas of reform is to witness to the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing community about the Catholic Church and have a growth along with the Hearing community that we may all become one…

I also forgot to mention…

There is a growth in the priesthood with Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing men who are called to the Holy Orders vocation… It’s just wherever there are more Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing that’s where they will more than likely be stationed…

So for those of us who don’t have a local Deaf Community within the local parishes… it will be great to have a reform within our own community so that we can, as I said in my previous post, “all be one”…

Weekly mass. Trying to live the Gospel as set out by two 1221 groups:

bspenance.org

penitents.org

Doing very little to help the Church directly, as I devote most of my non-work time to AA

Church every Sunday and Holy Day, daily mass when possible.
Of course agree with ALL Church teachings, and try to live life by the Gospel.
Not actively working on reform, since I’m trying to fulfill my own vocation as wife and mother first of all. Hopefully I’ll have time for that when the kids are raised. I used to be much more involved in parish and diocesan activities until the last 2 littles came along just over a year apart. 😉

Ok, I will write this according to the choices above.

I am a Sunday-Catholic. I sometimes attend daily mass but do not set my clock around it.

There are many good Church teachings, but there are others that were written to a time long ago and are not relevant to our present times.

The most important part of the Church are the people in it at all levels. Everyone involved is human from top to bottom. Human means fallibility comes along with it. That means human interpretation and error comes along with it. It is not a bad thing but just what is.

To reach out and relate to the present, teachings should be open to interpretation and change. In our modern times people are educated and should be looked upon as a resource. It helps renew the Church at all levels if it is a bottom-up rather than top-down introspection.

It always amazes me when I read posts like this by people who profess to be Catholic.
You come off as a lukewarm, cafeteria Catholic. You pick and choose what you want to believe from the Church and reject the rest because it’s “outdated”.

Are you saying that you don’t believe in Papal infallibility? Which doctrines are outdated?

In other threads you have a less-than-Catholic views on abortion, marriage, “rules” of the Church and more. Please enlighten me.

Chill, dude. First stone and all that.

I am also a Convert - Glory to God, as of '06. Never looked back except once during RCIA when I simply could not grasp the devotions to Our Blessed Mother.

I go to Mass every Sunday, and when possible during the week (not always offered) - although I have had battles with this due to a mental illness. A taking on more than I can chew, getting overwhelmed and failing in areas, then depression takes over kind of thing.

I have decided to develop a devotion to Our Blessed Mother, and Pray for her help to keep the monster at bay. Since I Love the Rosary, the only obstacle is to actually fight the battle to pick it up and do it. It’s a Lot easier when it’s an everyday thing, and so close to hand when problems arise - than trying to get to a Mass that may not be available anyway.

I believe, right down to my soul, every single thing the Church teaches. If it doesn’t make sense to me, I work at it until it does make sense - and usually find a treasure trove of riches that simply amazes me. Such as Our Blessed Mother.

I strongly affirm that when Jesus said ’ Deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow Me’ He meant exactly that. I got into a lot of hot water when I was a protestant for my views on Scripture, and what it means for us today. I thank God that isn’t True in the Church - we are the only ‘Full Gospel’ Church there is.

My favorite thing? (Not asked but I will answer it anyway) is the Eucharist. Oh Lord God - send more people to your Church that they may truly experience Your wondrous Person in the Eucharist, and they will never leave.

Peace

John

A child of God. Belonging to His Church, the fullness of it.

And I have just gotten much of my faith back. I agree with Catholicism and all her morals and doctrines, I just have a few issues with some of the rules and regulations on certain things, and a few other issues. However whatever is Truth is Truth!

i chose “OTHER” in the poll because i am “all of the above”… How come no category for that??

Being Catholic means knowing Jesus Christ intimately. It means doing everything he commands… which is NOT easy… temptations abound… :whacky: :banghead: :ouch:

It means knowing the meaning of life…

It has also meant being angry  at God… but knowing that He understands and (when i calm down) realizing that he is not the problem… that he doesn’t make evil… just allows it because of free will… etc…

It means not abandoningthe Church just because it has SO many sinful members… many of whom are not very Catholic… objectively speaking… (long story waht i mean…)…

It means knowing how to get free of Satan and his lies… (the rosary, the Mass, confession… the Real Presence 🙂 )…

It means: Reality:)… truth… Love… unconditional Love… which ONLY Jesus can give (and his mother…)…

I’m a *reasonable *Catholic. That means I love and support the Church, but don’t want it overtaken by fanatics of any stripe.

Being Catholic means I try and look at Christ and the meaning of universal. It means if I call myself Catholic, then I must act like a Catholic. To me that means I must forgive in order to be forgiven. I must hold onto Faith, Hope and I must Love. It means I must try and be like Christ in order to draw others to him. It means I teach by example, be a witness, be a good samaritan when I can, not judge lest I be judged, believe in the healing power of Christ, trust Christ will get me through my tribulations, know I am not better then another, learn to follow the will of God even if I don’t understand or am unsure of where he is leading me, understand my responsibility as a mother to teach my children the Catholic faith as best I can, be prepared to be humbled at times, go to Church each week, try and be a Catholic outside of mass, trust in Him, believe in prayer, love like he loves, hope that the Catholic Education system shakes itself up a bit and stops bowing down at times to those who wish to minimise the faith in our children’s education, be prepared to pray for others, pray for the Holy Spirit to pour on those who need some serious assistance to come to the light. It means trying to be obedient, which can be hard at times.

As a Catholic I have realised there is intelligence and their is wisdom. The most academic need not necessarily be the wise. That the teacher must also become the student. My children sometimes come out with the most simple yet wisest words, so I figure being a Catholic is to become like a child at times, sometimes when I do that I see more truth.

As a mother I see our children as our focus, and that means I try and not stiffle their innocence because that innocence is more open to God and his awesomeness. Doubt has no place in my role as a Catholic mother, because through doubt we can stop believing, through doubt we can bring another down, through doubt we can open the door to Satan to meddle, through doubt we can hold ourselves back. So being a Catholic means I believe and am prepared to believe more and constantly learn and change and grow with Christ and towards Christ and ensure my children do the same, however sometimes I wonder who is the teacher, because they seem to teach me more.

Being Catholic means becoming the true Church in myself and as a Catholic there is no room for pride. So I must aim for humility constantly, because pride in the Church irks me a lot.

What does being a Catholic mean to me? I am not sure, as the meaning of Catholic to me evolves all the time. I figure to be Catholic is to constantly grow. One can go to mass everyday but that does not make them a Catholic inside themselves. Being Catholic is to be like Christ, to shed the darkness and become light, to assist others to do the same and assist others to walk in the light, to be a light that draws others to Christ and the Catholic Faith, to know the Holy Spirit and the Father as well as the Son, to allow the Son to draw us to the Father. I miss the Father.

After all my ramblings I am thinking that being a Catholic means I got a chance to come home to my real Father in Heaven. So it means a lot. Only problem is I am not a brave Catholic.

I can be fanatical, too. It’s hard to feel strongly and not lukewarm:eek: , but still keep the humility and love He wants us to have.
I follow the precepts of HMC, I use a number of devotions (rosary, Scripture reading, prayers to Saints, prayer-meditation, etc), I try to keep up with my own catechesis, I give to the needy…🤷

In the simplest of terms, to me, being Catholic means my salvation. The Church is rich in spiritual treasures which it dispenses freely to those who seek them, These leads us ever closer to God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit, our one true goal.
Prayers & blessings
