This is a cont. of another thread.

So I think it means “help” and by help I mean “providing the conditions for”.

But I think I’m wrong since my definitions lead to impossible answers.

Thanks

It means pursuing the same evil goal as the evil you’re cooperating with, especially when you’re doing evil actions to achieve it. Or if evil intentions are assaulting you, it means submitting to those temptations.

There are varying degrees of cooperation within each person.

Complete silence in the face of evil is cooperation with evil.

“Sitting on the fence” concerning moral issues is cooperation with evil. (“I’d rather you be hot or cold, but you are lukewarm and I spit you out of my mouth.” )

Voicing that you’d never commit a particular mortal sin, but that you wouldn’t take that choice away from another person, is cooperation with evil.

now, would buying something from someone who is bad count as cooperation w/evil since buying gives them an income?

That depends on the evil. I’m guessing you were thinking of abortion, and in that case you might be right. But for other evils we are not necessarily commanded to “take away the choice” to sin from others. For example, blasphemy is a grave sin. But is it considered cooperation with evil to decline to vote for laws that impose civil penalties for blasphemy? I don’t think so. What we should do in that case is to call the sinner to repentance in the spirit if love, not throw him in jail.
