I have often wondered about the definition of faith, wondered if I have it or have enough. I thought I had it figured out but then I saw something about the definition of it and it got me a little confused so I thought I would ask " what does faith say " as opposed to what faith means.

Maybe that will clear things up for me. What does faith say to you?

Faith is trust.

Faith says, “I trust God.”

Faith says, “I trust the promise that if I do my best to resist temptation and persevere to the end I will be raised from the dead.”

Modern Catholic Dictionary**FAITH. **The acceptance of the word of another, trusting that one knows what the other is saying and is honest in telling the truth. The basic motive of all faith is the authority (or right to be believed) of someone who is speaking. This authority is an adequate knowledge of what he or she is talking about, and integrity in not wanting to deceive. It is called divine faith when the one believed is God, and human faith when the persons believed are human beings. (Etym. Latin fides, belief; habit of faith; object of faith.)

BELIEF. The acceptance of something as true on a trustworthy person’s word. It differs from faith only in the stress on confidence in the one who is believed. Moreover, belief emphasizes the act of the will, which disposes one to believe, where faith is rather the act of the mind, which assents to what is believed.

Faith says: I believe in things not seen.
Yes, but isnt that ‘faith’ based on what someone 2000 yrs ago SAW with their eyes?

Im a bit confused by this as well, many verses, Jesus seems to be annoyed at the non-belief/ unfaithful, people he came into contact with, using words like, “oh ye of little faith” or using the term ‘doubters’…but he still went ahead and did miracles on them or in front of them??? Why did he do this for them, but not for the unbelievers today?

Seems to me, if Jesus REALLY wanted people to have true faith in him, then he would have not done ANYTHING supernatural or any miracles in front of people back then, he would have simply taught in the way it is done today…then if those people still had faith and believed his words, it would be true faith, not based on seeing with their own eyes.

God exists. God is trustworthy, good, and true. God is love-and He promises a life of eternal love and sheer, unadulterated happiness to those who choose to love, too, with His help.

That even in the darkest hour, I will trust in God and do his will.

Read the whole of John 6. Jesus starts with a big miracle, feeding the multitude. His audience sees him as a great guy ,feeding his people like YHWH did in the desert. Notice that the multitude is out in a deserted place also.
Next Jesus walks on the water. Not as spectacular event as the multiplication of the loaves and fishes but still very cool. And he also proves his Godhood by doing things His Father did like controlling nature. Water was a sign of the “deep” . Nature at it’s scariest and uncontrollable. God the Father had the “deep” under His control. Now His Son as also proved that as God’s Son he also has power over nature. Again , he is an awesome guy with all kinds of powers like his Father. Then we get to the Bread of Life discourse. Body and Blood of the Lord as real food and real drink. He is just preaching , nothing miraculous physically being done. But just speaking has just turned almost all his followers against him. now he’s a nut case, what he is saying is just too hard to grasp, too much to swallow but more important than everything else he had done that day. No fancy miracles, but a profound , deeper ,sounder unity with Him in mind in spirit through his body and Blood. Real food , real drink and they cannot hack it. They would like another miracle, another sign that this guy is who he says he is and has the same power. And there is the cultural thing .
Jesus wanted them to believe him, not because he could do some wonderful trick but but because they understood and accepted Him and saw him as more than a prophet, more than magician but as messiah, saviour, friend, God. This was unacceptable to the masses and the majority walked away. But the apostles as thick and dense as any other peasant , knew that Jesus had the words of everlasting life because they knew Him.
Another messiah and another miracle could be just around the next corner. Wonderworkers were numerous as well as “messiah” but the truth ,the way and the life could only be found with Jesus.

I’m having trouble finding that. Can you tell me where in the Bible you find a definition of “What faith says”. I’m thinking it might not be in there.

I have no idea about what scriptures say about what faith says. I didn’t even imply that there was anything in there about what it says. My question was to any individual about what their faith says.
My faith says that God is there no matter what.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

Faith is kind of taking a risk to trust in God, something that takes us out of our comfort zone.

A few years ago, I had a mole removed that might be cancerous, about a month after the doctor phoned to say he urgently wanted to see me, it was non Hodgkins Lymphoma, our best friend had this cancer, and three months after being told; she died. After the initial shock of knowing I had been given a possible death sentence, I prayed for the wisdom peace and serenity to do God’s will, regardless as to whether the cancer would prove to be fatal or just an inconvenience.

I can only say that from the moment of making this prayer, I have experienced profound times of peace and the thought of cancer has never troubled me at all. I could not imagine being able to live in peace with this knowledge if I did not have a faith

I have never once prayed for healing, at the age of 65 it might be my time to die, the prayer for healing seemed too complicated to me.

I’m a little confused. You are all giving the answer to what faith is. Was that what was meant by “what faith says?” Did the OP actually mean “what faith is” or “what faith says”?

God will give you what you need. I am sure of this. He never fails.
