I have heard the term “faithfully descent” several times lately and I don’t know what that means. The context used was regarding contraception and pregnancy.

I believe it refers to people respectfully disagreeing with the Church on certain issues.

In your example, these people are respectfully disagreeing with the Church on contraception…which is ironic, because it is a non-negotiable. 🤷

I had to laugh at this because it is so very true, and yet some just don’t get it or don’t want to get it!👍

It means being able to walk down a flight of stairs without tripping. 😃

But you’re probably more interested in what “faithful dissent” means!

Thank you “Just Lurking”…you are correct Faithful Dissent is what I was referring to.

Exactly!

I believe “descent” is a fully correct way of describing “dissent.” No correction needed. 😛

Observation: I go to a well-known Catholic university that is really big on social justice. I am always seeing letters to the paper about university workers getting a living wage, how Raytheon shouldn’t be allowed to recruit on campus because they are an arms manufacturer, etc. But when it comes to the “pelvic issues”…well, you can guess. Condoms should be available on campus, the Church is too hung up on contraceptives and premarital sex, blah blah.

My question to them is, why do they think the Catholic Church is so smart in one area and so dumb in another? 😛

Social justice: The Church is wise and all-knowing. We should follow her doctrine.
Sexual ethic: Those old celibate guys don’t know anything about sex! Condoms for all!

Ah, the schizophrenia of cafeteria Catholicism…it would be funny if it weren’t so sad.
