We fast (as well as abstinence) today because it’s ash wednesday. The Church said that we eat 1 full meal, and two other smaller meals. So this pertains on eating food. Does the Church also wants us that we fast from using technology too or just about the food intake?

The required Church fasting and abstinence rules are necessary, but they are indicators for us to purge all excess–anything that keeps us from growing closer to God–from our lives. Many people are obsessed with technology, hours on the internet or cell phone. So yes if that is something that’s merely wasting time you could be devoting to growing closer to God in prayer and works of charity, you could decide to fast from it. For example, no internet after 6 p.m. or the like.

The Church requires we fast and abstain from meat today. This pertains to food.

Anything else you do is your own devotion, it isn’t something the Church asks or requires.
