If a someone came up to you and said, “I heard you accepted Christ as your savior. What does that mean?” How do you answer?
That is what I would ask them!If a someone came up to you and said, “I heard you accepted Christ as your savior. What does that mean?” How do you answer?
Only the “sinners Prayer” is not in the bible and won’t save you. It’s only been practiced less than 50 years…Most likely, the question would come from an Evangelical or Fundamental Protestant. To them it basically stems from the one act of faith in believing that Jesus died for your sins and praying the sinner’s prayer. The sinner’s prayer is basically a prayer admitting that you’re a sinner in need of forgiveness and redemption and asking Jesus to “come into your heart” and forgive you of all your sin. It’s often referred to as the “four step plan of salvation”.
How do you answer? With a resounding “YES”. Not only do you receive the Spirit and Divinity of Christ, you also have the added privilege of tangibly receiving Christ’s body onto your tongue at every Mass. As Catholics, we have the opportunity to receive Christ in His Fullness! How beautiful is that!
Hi, Pokedaughter - thanks for your post!To “accept” Christ is the same as acknowledging him and then also receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life…
John 1:12 states: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God…”
Acts 16:31 And they(Paul and Timothy) said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Romans 10:9-11 states:
“9that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11*For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”
That is where I think the terminology “Accepting Jesus as my personal Savior” comes from. It is a moment in your heart and mind where you have a conversion experience similar Paul’s: It was personal and changed him forever.
The word “personal” just means that you have a personal relationship with Him and that He is Lord of your life as well as Savior of your soul. Having a personal relationship with Jesus is free to all. (Romans 1:16 - For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation **to every one **who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.)
Making Jesus Lord just means you give him the reigns, you relinquish control, and let God through Christ take over every aspect of your life and heart.
I hope that helps.
Blessings.![]()
I like that! I am pretty fond of the word relinquish!Making Jesus Lord just means you give him the reigns, you relinquish control, and let God through Christ take over every aspect of your life and heart.

Right on!FYI, my idea for this thread came when I was listening to an ESPN podcast (yes, begrudgingly, they are one of the few sources with decent topical sports podcasts) and they were interviewing Giants wide receiver David Tyree (of Superbowl fame catching the ball against his helmet). Apparently, Tyree was involved in drugs and at some point recently he said he “accepted Christ as [his] savior.” I wondered what he meant by saying that.
I know what it means if I were to say it, but I wanted to know how non-Catholics meant it.
I wonder if Tyree believes he has relinquished himself and given complete control to God. More power to the one that can do this totally!!!
Thanks be to God!!! :extrahappy:In Catholic Church, we Catholics have a much deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We received His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. We eat his flesh and drink his blood.
I likey! The most peaceful, joyful Christians - that I’ve had the pleasure to encounter,
were born-again Evangelicals.
They radiate the attitude of the first Christians.
To them, Jesus of Nazareth really is ‘good news,’ and they are hopping planes,
zooming around the globe, telling people just that.
“I bring good news.” It’s irresistable. “What good news?” http://bestsmileys.com/nono/9.gif
Evangelical churches are growing by leaps and bounds,
as it’s members nod pleasantly - to the mainline churches - and then it’s
heading for the airport - off to Central America!..
perhaps explains this phenomenon.
While others are in the bogs and fens of 'doctrinal dispute" -
off go the evangelicals! to share the treasure of their hearts - Jesus.
“I have accepted Jesus as my personal savior. He has done the work of our salvation. He is my justification before his father.
He is righteousness. In Him I am safe and saved.
To Him be glory everlasting.”

I just like quoting everyone tonight!Evangelical churches are growing by leaps and bounds,

**Fast growing means nothing in the long run.
To drag strangers into the conversation, Jesus told a parable about seed that grew fast, but soon withered away because it didn’t have strong roots.
In my life in pop-evangelicalism, I’ve seen that happen way too often.**
