What does in mean to be poor in spirit?

I’m not sure how to ask a question. The reason I joined this site is to ask a question or two that has been bothering me for years. I am a Catholic for the last 42 years. I stil hear things in scripture that I do not understand.
One question I have is what does “Poor in spirit mean”? Beatitudes.
In the scriptures it says “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God” What does that mean? bh0272:rolleyes:
 
Hi,

To be poor in spirit is to be humble. It is to acknowledge that all things, including ourselves, belong to God. He is more important than we are and we are happy with this. Nothing can make us happier than to realize how good He is!
