Exactly what’s going on at my school. To Catholic recruits they will stress campus ministry, the chapel, etc. etc. To students and parents who don’t care about Catholicism, they will stress how liberal and religion-neutral the school is. Meanwhile, for 30 years there’s been a push to hire non-Catholic faculty. Guess what the result is now?
You have to pin down exactly where the problem is now. Decades ago it was the religious orders, and the bishops who still had power then but were distracted by implementing Peace and Justice.

But the bishop today does not have the same clout. He had to pick his battles. In some colleges where there still is a lot of Catholic activity, such as Notre Dame, Laity should struggle to restore full consistent Catholicism.

In other colleges, there is really nothing Catholic left, faculty is either non Catholic or dissenting Catholic. All we can do is fight to persuade t he college to drop the Catholic label. Some are dropping the label on their own, as a marketing decision.

Oh, I know where the problem is in my college. I’ve been there nearly 40 years and have seen it all.

Should we not admonish the sinner out of fear of the backlash? I would say that we should not fear the backlash and go ahead and admonish the sinner. The same goes here. Bishops should warn the Catholic faithful about unfaithful universities and colleges and not fear the backlash. Jesus Christ told us we would be hated.

Who do you mean by “we” and “us”? If you mean us laity I’m fully in agreement. We have been deplorably passive. We don’t need anyone to tell us the problem, and we know many things we can do. As laity.

But if you mean we the Laity should complain about the bishops, no, that isn’t our ministry. The Secular media presses the laity to “act” on every problem by blaming the bishops for inaction. This is especially true of proabortion politicians, but also true in other areas.

Hopefully you aren’t responding to that song.

Someone once said, that -

A few decades ago
it was very difficult to even ID a Dozen Active American Bishops who were very faithful to Catholicism

Was that Optimistic? Realistic? Pessimistic?

I wonder if that connects with what Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said in a recent Letter (to the chagrin of more than a few) whereby he put great blame upon the rabid homosexual cliques established in Seminaries - going on back to the 1960’s - ?

The worst statement made today by anti-Catholics “I went to Catholic School…”

Only if you consider being anti-Catholic a problem for a Catholic college. 🙃
