I listen to EWTN frequently, and I’ve been hearing quite a few of the radio shows referring to a man’s responsibility as the “spiritual leader of the family”. I did not hear about this in detail. I checked a portion of the Cathechism looking for more information on this, but I could not find anything that discussed this in more detail. I may have missed it; it’s a very long document and I have not read the entire document yet.

I am a woman who wants to marry and have children. However, I am unclear on how the concept of my husband being a spiritual leader affects the family. Does this merely mean that he leads by setting a good example, taking time to take the family to mass, and leading prayers? Or does this mean that he is to be given final decision making authority when we disagree on a major family decision? What is the wife’s responsibilty? Shouldn’t she also be leading in partnership with her husband?
