What does it mean that Mary is the spouse of the Holy Ghost?

What does it mean that Mary is the spouse of the Holy Ghost? I’ve heard people say that it’s just metaphorical, but when I read Traditional writings, and such, I get the impression that it’s something more?

I’m not bothered by this, just confused, what is the Traditional understanding of Mary as the spouse of the Holy Spirit?

St Joseph is Mary’s Spouse. It’s in the Liturgy of the Eucharist in the Eucharistic prayer.

St.Maximillian Kolbe refers to Our Lady as such.
St. Francis wrote a prayer referring to Her this way.

It has nothing to do with the way we refer to a spousal union. It has to do with how Mary is united with the Holy Spirit from the time she was Immaculately conceived by the Holy Spirit in her mother’s womb.
